Jonathan (Jon) S. Vargo passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 17, 2020. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Amy Jo (Burton), parents, James and Toni Vargo, brother William (Bill) (Debbie) Vargo, sister Laurie (Kevin) Hays, and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts.

Jon and Amy have always loved their pets as members of their family. Jon was preceded in death by cats Sadie and Maggie, and dog Brutus. He is survived by cats Scarlet and Grey, and dogs Darcy and Woody.

Jon grew up in Coshocton, Ohio. He was a talented person who excelled at a variety of activities. He was in Boy Scouts and became an Eagle Scout as a teenager. He acted in school and community theater, sang baritone in choir, played the trumpet, and was the field commander of his high school marching band. Also an athlete, Jon played baseball and was the catcher on the Coshocton High School varsity team.

Jon graduated as valedictorian of Coshocton HS class of 1988. He attended The Ohio State University, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Systems Technology from Southern Illinois University, and a Master’s Degree in Safety Sciences from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Jon’s proudest achievement is having served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps as an Avionics Electronics Technician for KC-130 Aircraft. His duty stations include VMGR-152 MCAS Futenma Okinawa Japan, VMGR-352 Miramar CA, and NATTC MATSG Cherry Point NC. Jon served his country proudly, including multiple deployments overseas, until retiring in 2008.

Upon military retirement Jon had a career in Occupational Health and Safety in chemical and manufacturing facilities in New York, Maine, Mississippi, and most recently Pennsylvania.

Jon was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a huge sports fan who rooted for The Ohio State Buckeyes and Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins.
