WILLIAM HUMPHREY

 

William R. Humphrey "Bill", 85, a resident of Annapolis, MD for four years and previously of Riverdale, MD and Port Orange, FL, died on Monday, June 19 after a five year battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born in Brooklyn, NY on June 30, 1931 to the late Mortimer and Anne Humphrey, Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1952 with the 3rd U.S. Infantry Old Guard. He then became a police officer with the Metropolitan DC Police Department and in 1977 he retired as a Captain after 24 years of service. Bill was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Annapolis and Elks Lodge #1778 in Riverdale, MD. He enjoyed golf and the Washington Redskins. Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, Mortimer and Richard Humphrey; his sister, Jean Marie Cauthorn and his daughter in law, Virginia Humphrey. He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Rosemarie Humphrey; his children, William Humphrey, Jr. of Laurel, MD, Joseph (Mary) Humphrey of Jacksonville, FL, John (Gwenn) Humphrey of Fresno, CA, Cmdr. James (Akiko) Humphrey, USN of Yokosuka, Japan, Mary Louise (Cliff) Howe of Annapolis, MD, Carol Ann Gibson of Arnold, MD and Catherine (Philip) Wilson of Riva, MD; his sister, Carol Ann Pecoraro, 24 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, June 26 at 10:30 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, MD. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1850 York Rd., Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093.
