JOHN L GRAMPOVNIK

 

Grampovnik, John L. 101, life-long resident of North Chicago, went to be with the Lord and his family on March 16th, 2012 at Rolling Hills Manor in Zion, IL. He was born on June 10th, 1910 in North Chicago to Johan and Johanna (Scubic) Grampovnik. John was a member of Mother of God Church, The Saint Josephs, K.S.K.J. #53, and The Waukegan Knights of Columbus. John is survived by his loving family, three sons, John III (Judy); Lansing, IA, Robert (Francine), Wadsworth, IL, David, Waukegan, IL, and one daughter, Margaret (Gary) Green of Albuquerque, NM; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Francis (Debevic) in 1980 and three brothers, Peter, Joseph, Edward, and two sisters, Matilda Grampovnik and Jeanne Evans, as well as a daughter-in-law, Kathryn Grampovnik. John only attended school until the 6th grade. His first job was caddying at Bob'O'Link golf course, Highland Park, IL. From then on, he held several other jobs until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served in World War II, stationed in Panama as a motor machinist mate for four years. After the war he worked at Houdialle Hershey (Oaks), Midwest Foam, and finally ended his working career at Abbott Laboratories in 1975 at the age of 65. He was an avid gardener till the age of 100, a true fisherman, a balina player, and a long time Cub fan.
