John A Brixie, 77 of Cranford passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019. Born on Jan. 7, 1942 in Perth Amboy, NJ, and grew up in Fords. He was the first born son of John and Rose Brzychcy, brother to Joseph and Edward (deceased). He was a beloved husband of 56 years to Rosalind Rossi Brixie, a wonderful father to his son John & wife Cynthia, and daughter Mary (Brixie) Cologna and husband Fabio, grandfather to five grandchildren: Samantha, Noah, James, Alexa and Arianna - and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He was a lifelong musician, playing multiple instruments including piano, organ, accordion, saxophone, and clarinet. He held various engineering and management positions in New York during his career. He was the Saturday night organist at St. Theresa’s Church in Kenilworth for 53 years and in his retirement, the music Director at St. Joseph the Carpenter in Roselle. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s High school in Perth Amboy, received his Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering from NJIT and his Masters of Science in Information Systems from Stevens Institute of Technology. He served honorably in the Army during the Vietnam war, was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and a devout Catholic. A viewing will be held on Monday Feb. 25th from 5-8p at Dooley’s Funeral Home in Cranford. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday Feb. 26th at 10:30a at St. Theresa’s in Kenilworth; interment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia, NJ. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in his name to Villa Walsh - St. Joseph’s Hall in Morristown, or St. Raphael’s Church in Livingston, NJ. |
