Emil Gerger, 88, was a 3rd Degree Knight who passed away Tuesday January 8th at Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House. Born in Rugby, North Dakota to Adolph and Johanna (Scheile) Gerger, Emil was raised in North Dakota where he met and married Arlene Bruner in September of 1959. Together they moved to California, and then to Albany in 1965. Emil opened his own carpet laying business, Gerger Floor Covering, a career that lasted until he was 80 years old. He enjoyed golf, Ocean fishing and a yearly Elk hunting trip, and was obsessed with caring for his lawn. Emil never met a stranger and couldn’t go anywhere in town without striking up conversations with acquaintances. He was a member of the Albany Eagles Club, St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Together he and Arlene volunteered many hours at their church, whether it was in the soup kitchen, laying carpet in St. Mary’s School, or whatever else was needed.
Survivors include his wife Arlene of Albany; son Brent & [Kim] Gerger of Albany, Daughter Gail Ramsey [Dan] of Albany, sons Corey [Stacey] Gerger of Albany Gary (Jennifer) Gerger of Kentucky, and Dean (Jennifer) Gerger of Washington; brother Tony Gerger of California; many grand and great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Leonard Gerger and daughter Donna Gerger, three brothers and two sisters. |
