Brother Knights,

Holy Hour will be taking place on April 30th at Holy Angels Parish.

This reflection will focus on the meaning of the Easter Season: The Resurrection. Think back during the Triduum on how you experienced the Last Supper, the Garden of Gethsemane, the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Christ. All this you experienced was the Holy Spirit showing you what Christ has done for you…and for a purpose. So that we can be free from sin and death and live eternally in Christ who is the fulfillment of all our desires in this life.

Let’s think back to close to the beginning of the Acts of the Apostles. In Acts Chapter 2, St. Peter, the first pope established by Christ, proclaims to the Israelites after the Holy Spirit has descended upon the disciples and apostles.

In this passage (verses 14 – 36), Peter as the Vicar of Christ preaches Christ rising from the dead that we ourselves put Him to, informing them that death no longer has a hold. In verses 37 – 41, the Israelites remembered the Old Testament, as we should, and realized that Christ is indeed the fulfillment of all hope from sin and they had just put him to death on a cross.

Peter responds to them with this message of hope in verse 38 & 39, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children and to all that are far off, every one whom the Lord our God calls to him.”

This is a message for all of us. The meaning of the Resurrection is eternal life with God. But more than that…in God. The reason God became man (Jesus Christ) was to rescue us from Satan, who held us captive since the Fall of Adam and Eve, our first parents. Christ died on the cross  and rose from the dead to break our bonds from the devil and has overthrown his rule on Earth. Now Christ has given us the opportunity to choose His winning side over the devil’s losing side.

How do we do that? By living as Christ did, receiving the sacraments (Confession and Eucharist), spending our time in silent prayer with God and talking to Him. Learning to give ourselves to others and rely fully on Him. All of this relies on Christ’s love for us so we can choose to love Him. This is the way we get to Heaven…through Christ.

This is the Gospel St. Peter first proclaimed and it is the same task Christ gives us to others. This is the means of going on mission to proclaim the Word of God to the world. So, for this Holy Hour, I invite you to reflect and ask the Lord on where he wants you to go and proclaim the Gospel of the Resurrection of Christ. After all, He is the one who provides the first steps.

As always, you are free to pick any time throughout the day. Just make sure to let me know what times you are planning to do. Have a Blessed Easter Season!
