2013 National Night of Prayer for Life

It was on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception (then celebrated on December 9th) that Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas and the unborn, first appeared to St. Juan Diego.  The National Night of Prayer for Life bridges these two feasts to honor Our Blessed Mother and prays through Her intercession for the establishment of a Culture of Life, protection for the Church from persecution and asks  Our Lord to REVIVE OUR LAND. All are invited to participate!

We asked each Colorado Springs parish to join us in praying on this holy occasion.

During the HOUR OF UNITY, 12 Midnight – 1AM EST, 10 to 11 PM MST, we were united with churches across the country in prayer to end abortion and to restore God's blessings of Life and Religious Liberty in America.

The National Night of Prayer for Life is a prayer service consisting of  adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, the holy Rosary, prayer to St. Michael, silent prayer and hymns. All Knights of Columbus wereinvited to attend with their families and to wear their council attire or nametag. 4th Degree Sir Knights were asked to participate in the Honor Guard for the Blessed Sacrament on the altar. We also had someone to open the door for participants after hours.

Please note that in 2013 the Church's liturgical celebration of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception took place on Monday December 9th. Therefore, the beginning of the Church's celebration coincided perfectly with the National Night of Prayer for Life's Hour of Unity, 12 AM (midnight) to 1AM December 9th.

PLACING A MEMORIAL TO THE VICTIMS OF ABORTION

On January 4th, 2014, 10 advocates for life helped erect our memorial to remind passers-by of the cost of abortion. Every year during January, the Saint Patrick Knights of Columbus erect this reminder for Respect Life Month. Please pray for the Culture of Life in our nation and take part of Respect Life activities whenever you can.

WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO

St. Patrick Parish in Northern Colorado Springs is home to a strong and growing group of Knights and Sir Knights. Council 9993 and the growing Assembly 3049, together with a vibrant Ladies' Auxiliary, gather to support and serve our clergy, parish, families, and community.  St. Patrick Council assists the Parish with many events, such as the monthly pancake breakfast, annual parish picnic, and yearly Oktoberfest celebration. Knights are active in the many vibrant ministries of the Parish community.  A few of the projects undertaken have been:

• Supporting Boy Scouts with Eagle projects such as the Rachel's Garden and memorial to fallen officer Jared Jenson, and also by supporting the religious medal awards earned by scouts;
• Supporting our youth who traveled east to give Hurricane Sandy relief;
• Donating the Rachel statue to the Rachel rose garden;
• Together with the Ladies Auxiliary, purchasing and installing the 10 Commandments monument in the front of the church;
• Supporting the parish capital campaign and debt reduction campaign with fund-raising income;
• Hosting a casino night which provided entertainment for many in the community, and which provided funds to community charities;
• Annually performing our Tootsie Roll campaign to raise money for local charities helping intellectually challenged children;
• Supporting Pro-Life Crafters, a parish group who make blankets for new babies;
• Supporting the national "Coats for Kids" campaign, by purchasing and distributing boys' and girls' winter coats for needy in our area;
• Assisting a brother in need with a lift to get his wheelchair from the ground to the level of the entry to his home;
• Purchasing chalices, and replating the chalices, for use at Mass;
• Supporting the state Ultrasound Initiative to buy ultrasound machines and support the mobile "Baby Bus";
• Providing man-power (and lady-power together with the Auxiliary) for parish activities like ministry fair, picnic, craft sale, or Oktoberfest that require set-up, take-down, cooking, etc.;
• Participating in Lenten activities with Stations of the Cross and fish fries;
• Supporting our seminarians.

We also gather and worship together for such events as the National Night of Prayer, attend Mass as a body and then have breakfast together for "Corporate Communion" several times a year,  and have annual family events such as the Council Picnic and attending a Sky Sox baseball game. In nine months of the year, on the 4th Wednesday, we have joint gatherings with the Ladies' Auxiliary for food and fellowship after our regular meeting.  There are many opportunities for fellowship and fun social interaction. We look forward to more of our current and new members joining in.
