COUNCIL HISTORY WRITTEN ABOUT 2002

Good Shepherd Council 9272 Smithville, Missouri

Good Shepherd Council 9272 was chartered April 15, 1986. There were 31 charter members, of which 8
are still current members. The first Grand Knight was Jim McElhany and the first Financial Secretary was Roger Hulett. The council struggled in this small parish. After approximately 3 years, it became inactive. Through the hard work of District Deputy Pete Lorenz and charter members Roger Hulett and Dennis O'Brien, the council was reactivated in 1996, signing up 33 members.

During the tough reactivating year, Bill Kelly took the office of Grand Knight and Roger Hulett resumed the office of Financial Secretary.

In the last 5 years, the council has flourished, more than doubling it' s ranks to 80 members. This energetic council has participated in most of the Knights of Columbus sponsored programs and activities. Their energy and work has not gone unnoticed. For the MR Drive, in 1997, 9272 was recognized for the highest percentage increase over the
previous year. Also in 1997, 1998 and 1999, this council placed in the top 3, in the State for amount collected per member. For the 1998 - 1999 fraternal year, this council received honors for achieving the highest membership quota in the State, with an amazing 320% quota. For service programs, for the 1999 - 2000 fraternal year, 9272' s "Handicapped Fishing Tournament" was awarded the State Community Service Program Award, and was subsequently recognized in the top ten for the Supreme Community Service Program Award. In the 2000 - 2001 fraternal year, their " Mardi Gras Fund Raiser" was awarded the State Church Service Program Award. For the 1998 - 1999 fraternal year, the council was awarded the Fr. McGivney Award and the Founders Award. For the 2000 - 2001 fraternal year, 9272 received their first Star Council Award.

The member' s of 9272 exemplify what it means to be a Knight, and they have not gone unnoticed. Roger Hulett was named State Knight of the Month AND State Family of the Month for February - March, 2001. The Hulett family was subsequently recognized as the State Family of the year. The Gene Geniuk Family was recognized the very next month, for State Family of the Month.

Good Shepherd Council 9272 is very proud of their short, but distinguished history. Since their reactivating, this council has no doubt made an impact in the order, their parish and community. Their current leader's are: Grand Knight - Rick Boyle (2nd term), Financial Secretary - Bill Clouse (4 years), and Deputy Grand Knight Tom Theisen (2nd term).
