COUNCIL INFORMATION
About St. Barnabas Council # 8603
Early in 1984 Pastor Thomas Brennan and a group of interested men researched the feasibility of forming a Knights of Columbus Council at St. Barnabas Church in Bayville, New Jersey. With the concepts of Charity, Unity, Fraternity in mind 121 men were recruited to form our Council. St. Barnabas Council #8603 was chartered on April 4th, 1984 and Timothy Nueman was installed as our first Grand Knight.
Through the efforts of Brother John Gallagher our scholarship award was funded by a Chinese Auction. With the untimely death of Brother John in August of 1988 it was decided that the award be named “The John J. Gallagher Scholarship Award”.
Some of the many worthy organizations that are supported by our Council are: Ocean A.R.C., Birthright, Eyes for the Needy and many more.
Since the humble beginning of St. Barnabas Council #8603 we have continued to grow and prosper. Regrettably many of our Charter Members have passed away or moved to warmer climates since our inception but we now have 211 members which include 39 Honorary Life members. We have older members and younger members working together every day to make this Organization grow.
