COUNCIL INFORMATION

Sangamon Valley KC Council 5754

The Sangamon Valley Council began in 1965 in Athens, Illinois, when 42 members of the surrounding area signed the Charter for Council #5754

Much has changed over the past 50 plus years: The Council moved to Petersburg IL; met in several Council Halls and in 2007 found their new Council Hall in the Petersburg Square in downtown Petersburg. The Hall was sold in 2020 and the Council meeting are now held a t St peters Parish Hall. The Council continues to support both Catholic parishes in  Athens and Petersburg IL -  Holy Family and St. Peters Church, respectively. Today the Council has 85 members from central Illinois and Menard County: Athens, Oakford, Petersburg, Pleasant Plains, and surrounding area. In 2015, Sangamon Valley Council #5754 was recognized as a Double Star Council; one of 510 councils out of 13,000 Councils worldwide.  They were recognized for doubling their membership goals, for meeting insurance protection goals for their members and families, and for an effective service program including Council, Church, Family, Youth, and Community activities.  The council achieved Star Council again in 2021. The Council has an active Council and program: Annual Charity Golf Tournament and Annual Tootsie Roll drive to help with mentally challenged and handicapped; youth programs such as the Annual Spelling Bee; support to Four (4) Seminarians; regularly recognition for outstanding Knights and Families for service to the Parish, Community and Family; and much more.  Our dinners, breakfasts and fish fry’s are well attended.  Unity, Charity and Fraternity!
