What Do the Knights of Council 11862 Do?
These are the activities of the 200+ Knights in our Council and our Lady Knights, and of the young men in the Columbian Squires at St. Michael the Archangel, Garland.
We do these activities to support charities, now or in the past:
- Christmas Raffles
- Golf Tournaments
- Poker Tournaments
- Barbecue Sales
- Coat Drives
- Shoe Drives
- Garage Sales
- Sale of Nativity yard art
- Sale of “Keep Christ in Christmas” auto magnets
- Sponsorship of blood drives, in partnership with Carter Blood Care
Here is where we donate the money we raise:
- Seminarians (currently helping support four men in two local seminaries)
- Boy Scouts, Explorers, Squires, Parish Youth activities at St. Michael
- St. Michael’s Food Pantry
- St. Vincent de Paul
- Catholic Radio (Guadalupe Radio Network)
- Catholic Pro-Life Committee of the Diocese of Dallas
- American Wheelchair Mission (over 110 wheelchairs donated to date through donations from parishioners of St. Michael’s)
- Two $1000 scholarships for college and senior high students
- Miscellaneous religious items in the church (for example, the Processional Cross)
- Squires raised money to provide the electronic votive candles in the Chapel

Food and fun:

Breakfast in Curran Hall on the second Sunday every month

Help with Halloween Carnival and Easter Egg hunt; donate candy and popcorn

Sponsor Youth Basketball Freethrow Contest

Volunteer staff for Special Olympics

Gathered material and assembled portable volleyball net and poles
Serious stuff:

Provide marshals and other staff for Annual Pro-Life March in Dallas

Provide volunteers and marshals, and cook lunch at Hike for Life in Garland

Provide volunteers and safety for 40 Days for Life activities

Support the Divine Mercy Mass each year, and the Friday Divine Mercy Chaplet

Donate Chalices to priests through the Fourth Degree Chalice program
-
Maintain the Wall of Honor to recognize parishioners who have served our nation
-
Squires raised money to provide the electronic votive candles in the Chapel

Put up and take down the creche at Christmas
-
Serve as ushers, lectors, altar servers, and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion at every Mass and funeral

Pray every day for our priests, deacons, and religious, for parishioners, and for the sick, aged, and dying
Maintenance of parish property:

Painted all the classrooms

Painted the ironwork around the church

Bought and installed flag poles in front of the church, bought the flags

Painted the carport

Purchased and installed chair rails in the classrooms

Installed flags and Pledge of Allegiance plaques in every classroom

Obtained, welded, and installed handrails in the church

Cleaned up around the rectory and trimmed bushes and trees

Did repairs on rectory and painted
