September 2016 Meeting notes

The meeting was called to order at 7:00PM by Grand Knight Terry Hurtt.  A Rosary of the Luminous Mysteries was said, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.  All Officers except for Treasurer, Carl Richter, and Second Year Trustee, Chris Rao, both of whom were excused, were present.

The minutes of August 2, 2016, were read and approved without correction.

District Deputy, Mark Valero, was introduced.  He was glad to hear from our minutes that we are already making recruitment plans.  He also stated there are three Councils having First Degree Ceremonies this month, but we have no candidates.  He urged us to contact members who do not come to meetings to assist with the Tootsie Roll Drive and other functions.  Some men may work or have other reasons for not attending but may be happy to help with fund raisers and other functions.

The Treasurer's Report was read and approved.

Old Business:  1.)  Plans for our membership drive continue for the January 29, 2017, Corporate Communion Weekend.
2.)Tootsie Roll Drive - Frank Tumminia will contact managers of Publix and Winn Dixie for January and February dates.  Mike Gangloff suggested we divide the Friday and Saturday sessions equally among our active members, say 2 or 3 total each.  If we let those who work choose first times we should be able to make it reasonable for us all.  Also, most important to have phone numbers of all of us who help for contacting each other when necessary.
3.) Grand Knight Terry Hurtt asked if we are getting his emails.  All of us apparently missed one but otherwise all okay.  Important to send emails at least a few days before a function reminder, etc., and to respond ASAP when asked.
4.)  Dave Ottaviavi is attempting to get Church approval for our Barbeque for October 23 so we can make definite plans and Bulletin Advertisements.

New Business:  1.) Grand Knight Terry Hurtt handed out two requests for help.  The first was from Fr. James discussing the 15th Anniversary of the 9-11 attacks.  There will be a special Blue Mass on Sunday, September 11 with the Bishop presiding beginning at 1PM.  A memorial will be held at 12:30PM prior to the Mass.  Father asked us to attend if possible and help with planning and production of gift bags for all members of our fire stations and law enforcement officers, as well as help with the cost of the bags.
2.) Secondly, a letter from K of C Headquarters requested help for the victims of the Louisiana flooding.  I mentioned that the second collections from the three weekend Masses for the past two weekends were for the victims and families. There was discussion of a clothing drive or monetary support.  Ultimately, a motion for sending $1,000 from our Council to the Louisiana Relief Fund was approved.
3.)The "Keep Christ in Christmas" magnets were favorably received by parishioners last year and we are making plans to hand them out again this year.  Fin. Sec. Jeff Huesing will locate the Council from whom we purchased them.
4.)Jeff then discussed an indigent family in desperate need for help.  It was suggested we help them hook up with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Catholic Charities, and Social Agencies.  Additionally, we approved purchasing two $250 gift cards, given one at a time, for two months.
5.) Recorder Mike Gangloff suggested copies of the minutes be emailed to active members to better inform those absent from a meeting and expedite follow-up business.  The K of C website has been too unreliable. This was approved at the Officers Meeting, providing specific finances of the Treasurer's report are not listed..
6.) Lecturer Louie Romero announced he is now in his final year of studies for the Deaconate.
His books costs were approved for payment by our Council.
7.)  Dave Ottaviani announced September 18 will be the kick-off for our various Family Educational Programs.  Catholic Daughters is promoting an Isle of Capri function on October 18.  Religious Education books were more expensive than expected and $400 more is needed.  This was so approved.  It was also suggested that we ask the Church to have occasional second collections for Religious Education when new envelopes are prepared.
8.)  Paul O'Malley asked for a contribution to the cancer fund for Lisa Lyons.  $250 was once again approved.

The 50/50 drawing was won by District Deputy Mark Valero. The Member's Drawing was won by Louie Romero.                                 .

Following prayers for the Good of the Order, the Meeting adjourned at 8:20PM.

Respectfully submitted,  Michael Gangloff

Michael Gangloff announced that Michael Heron sponsored William Ash received his First Degree
on July 28 at the St. Lucie Council.  That Council is considering having the First Degree on the last Tuesday rather than the last Thursday of the month.

New Business: 1.)Dep. GK Julio Perez announced there will be a religious teaching program at Holy Family Church on August 25 at 7PM.  He also attended the Orlando Conference and discussed recruiting issues.  He stressed we emphasize the value of insurance to our new members.  Are we doing our best in Charity, Unity, and Fraternity projects?  We need to spend money to attract new members, especially as we all age.  Cinco de Mayo Social is helpful the third Thursday of each month; please try to attend especially with a potential new member.  Seek out our Catholic neighbors, friends and Church members.  We need to train new officers and share responsibilities.  The Fraternal Planner should be used for each meeting.  2.) Planning Activities: 9-11-2016 is the fifteenth anniversary of the attack by terrorists.  Dave Ottaviani suggested we plan a Knight's attendance at one of the Masses as it falls on a Sunday.
October 23 - The Barbeque
December 12 & 13, pending approval, the Christmas party for the Children.  If confirmed, will "set up" on Sunday, December 11, at 1PM.
January 29, 2017 - Corporate Mass.  Plan to have recruitment talks at all Masses as well, preferably by our members.  Frank Tummiinia suggested an on-going add in the Church Bulletin.  Dave O. volunteered to get info from Jim Collins as to the add used in his Parish.
3.)Monetary Help Needs- a.)  Lauren Volkardt is a convert who attended FSU and huge supporter and participant in the Catholic Youth Ministry on Campus. She recently graduated and is going to be a Campus missionary at Rutgers University in New Jersey.  There is no salary.  Dave O. recommended we give her $100/month or $1,200 for the first year, and then have her present to us her progress.  It was approved we give her $1,200.
b.)  Our BK Mike Whitcomb has a young boy, Jake, who is having epilepsy attacks.  While the family has had $250 donated for a monitoring wrist watch, they still need $800 to purchase a special camera.  Mike G. recommended we help the family and $800 was approved.

The 50/50 drawing was won by Tom Chelednick.  Jim Collins won the member's drawing and donated the $50 towards the Christmas Party.

Following prayers for the Good of the Order, the meeting adjourned at 8:20PM.

Plan for this Tax Day and into the Future

Catholic Eye Opener---Email from Gerard Figari

Catholics of America need to unite with other Christians of this GREAT UNITED STATES and let the world know that we are CHRISTIAN NATION irregardless of what our leader may say and think!!!!!!

Charity Hospital run by the Sisters of Charity  in New Orleans, along with the Upjohn Company developed the plasma system in the 1930's that saved so many lives in WWII, Korea, Vietnam and in the middle east now,

During the Civile War most of the nurses were nuns.

Even if you are not caholic, this is eye opening:

When the Catholic Church was founded, there were no schools.  Today, the Catholic Church teaches 3 million students a day, in its more than 250 Catholic Colleges and Universites, in its more than 1200 Catholic High Schools and its more than 5000 Catholic Grade Schools.

Every day , the Catholic Church feeds, clothes, shelters, and educates more people than an other organization in the world.

The new Obabma Health Mandate could end all this and the tax payers wold have to make up the loss.

Also, all Catholic adoption services will come to an end... a human disaster.

There are more than 77 million Catholics in this Country.  It takes an estimated 50 million Catholic votes to elect a president.

Go to the polls in 2014 and be united in replacing all Senators and Reps with someone who will respect the Catholic Church, all Christians, and all Religions, with the perhapas the exception of Isalm.

Mr. Preseident, you said, "The USA is not a Christian Nation."  You are wrong- we are a Christian Nation founded on Judeo-Christian Values allowing all relgions in America to worship  and practice freely... something that Isalm will never do

Oh, by the way, on Musilm Heritage in America... Have you ever been to a Muslim hospital, heard a Muslim charity, ever seen Muslims shaking hads with Muslim Girl Scouts, or even seen a Muslim Candy Striper volunteering in a Hospital?

Have you ever seen a Muslim do much of anything that contributes postively to the American way of life?

Ways to pay for Whole Life

Here's the December article, hope all's well !First I'll wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving and also a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year !God Bless!

Ways to Pay for Whole Life

We live in a world of options and we are constantly bombarded by choices. Some of these make our lives more complicated, but many of these choices are created with our satisfaction in mind.

At the Knights of Columbus, every product we offer has been designed solely for the benefit of our members and their families. When I present an option to you, it’s because a team of experts has discussed it at length to be certain it serves your best interest.

We have a few options on how you can provide and pay for the whole life coverage that your family needs. Many whole life policies call for premiums to be paid for your entire life or to age 100. But we also offer permanent life coverage with guaranteed cash values (and the potential to earn dividends, which are not guaranteed) through policies that offer a limited period of premium payments.

First, we offer “10 Pay Life” and “20 Pay Life.” Consider paying premiums for 10 or 20 years, and never having to pay for the coverage again. The plan is “paid up” and no more premiums are due. The plan stays in force, the death benefit remains intact and the guaranteed cash value continues to grow.

A plan with similar benefits is “Life Paid Up at 65.” The difference over 10 or 20 Pay Life plans is that this permanent product requires you to pay premiums until age 65. Then, premiums stop (just in time for retirement), but the plan remains in force.

Finally, the ultimate in limited pay is our Single Premium Life product. Imagine buying life insurance — permanent life insurance — and only paying one single premium? It’s possible.

To learn more about these products, our long-term care insurance, disability income or retirement products, please call me today.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR TO YOU AND YOURS !
