Info for New Knights and their Families

A Ladies Guide to the Knights of Columbus

This handy guide will help you and your family to understand much of what the Knights are about and how being a Knight can become a positive addition to your family life.

Faith in Action

Knights in Action. Faith in Action.

The Knights of Columbus offers men a place to lead their families and communities in faith and service and put their Faith into Action. Knights of Columbus members, parishes and families have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference through 32 Supreme Council-recommended programs.

Organized into Faith, Family, Community and Life categories, the Faith in Action program model empowers Knights to come together to share faith, celebrate fraternity with loved ones, and do what they do best — stand shoulder to shoulder in service to the community and to defend life at all stages and in every condition.

Annual Survey of Fraternal Activity Form 1728A

All Knights that perform volunteer work for our council or the community, attend meetings, give blood, visit the elderly or many various other forms of charity work are requested submit the totals of all hours worked.

This can be done two ways.

1.  Sign on to the Members Only section of this website and fill in your hours throughout the year as you go.*

2.  Fill out the interactive form 1728A located on the Supreme website (Link below) and then print a copy or save as a PDF, OR print the interactive form and hand fill it out.  Either way you choose.  Then turn it in to your Church Advocate (currently: Nick Bratt for St Hubert, Walter Watts for CHS and Bill Clark for St Matthew).

CLICK HERE FOR THE INTERACTIVE FORM       This is the newest version of the form.

Click here for help on where to list your activities on the 1728 form

*Filling out the form online is the preferred method.  You can even use your smartphone for this and add hours throughout the year right at the event.  Everything you add will be accumulated and a year-end report can be printed by you or our Grand Knight!

We as a council are requested to submit a total of all hours of service for all our Knights.  Our grand Knight will accumulate and total the hours you submit through one of the two methods above.  He will fill out a form 1728 for the whole council and send it to Supreme.

Supreme wants to know the total hours we as a council gave to help people in need and yes it includes even non-council activities.  If you can't find where to log something you do, just add it to one of the misc. sections.  Please try to log everything you do.  Scroll down for help with activities and suggestions as to where to list them on the Form 1728A.

The form 1728A is due back to the council by December 31 of each year.  The information is used to have an approximate idea of the good work we do as an organization.  So please either log your hours in the Members Section or print off a form 1728A fill it out to the best of your recollection and turn it in to your Church Representative (currently: Nick Bratt for St Hubert, Walter Watts for CHS and Bill Clark for St Matthew).  Please try to turn it in early, preferably by the last business meeting of the year.

The Tootsie Roll Drive! (AKA The ID Drive)

Every year in September the Knights are on street corners and at local businesses giving away Tootsie Rolls for donations to help people with intellectual disabilities.

Ninety percent of the money we collect goes to local charities!  Gigi’s Playhouse, Special Camps, Misericordia, Elite Stars, and our parishes “Gift Programs”.  Ten percent goes to Statewide Charities.

Please visit: TootsieRollDrive.com for more updated information, to make a donation or to sign up to help.

We thank you for your support!!!

Pre-sale of Bulk Tootsie Rolls to local businesses

Many local communities, including ours, have been increasing restrictions on corner solicitations over the last few years.  Because of this we are looking for additional sources of donations for our ID Drive.

We have decided to solicit local businesses to make a donation for Tootsie Rolls in bulk.  They can then give them to their clients, customers or employees.   Each business will get a container and a laminated sign to post with the TRs to show that they made a generous donation to support the K of C and local ID charities.  Other councils have done this in the past with much success.

We have ordered Tootsie Rolls and will start this campaign in mid-July and run thru mid-late August.  Minimum donations are $20 per sleeve or $100 per case (300 Tootsie Rolls / 6 sleeves per case).

We are asking you, our Knights, to help find businesses willing to participate.  You can sign up to join our team if you would like to go out and visit businesses, or if not, maybe you could at least check where you work to see if they would be willing to participate or just make a donation.   Please let us know how you can help.  Sign up online or give us a call.

For additional info or to sign up please contact Jim Manfre, Tom Senese or Mike Sulentic.

Food Pantry Donations

The Hoffman Schaumburg Council 6964 supports the efforts of Deacon Larry Smith at Holy Archangels Parish, St Hubert and St Matthew to collect food and monetary collections for our area food pantries.

Donations go to one of our partner food pantries including the St. Gregory of Nyssa Food Pantry located at Church of the Holy Spirit, Schaumburg Township Food Pantry, Our Lady of Angels, and St. Als (Our Lady of Unity) in Chicago along with other worthy food pantries in our area. Each month the donations we collect go to one or two of the different pantries. These amazing panties serve hundreds of families in Cook County. The Hoffman Schaumburg Knights of Columbus support this program and we thank you for your donation!

A slight credit card fee is deducted from all donations. Or, you can choose to donate $26.50 (includes the credit card fee) for us to purchase $25.00 gift cards for the pantries.

The Newman Fund

Newman Centers are Catholic ministry centers that provide pastoral services and ministries to their Catholic Communities, in particular to the Catholic student population within Illinois colleges and universities. In addition to weekend and weekday Masses, a variety of university and parish related meetings and social events take place at the Newman Centers. The full Sacramental life of the Church exists in a Newman Center just as it would in any parish. Baptism, Reconciliation, Marriage, special Masses, and even funerals are part of the Newman Community. It is truly a student's "parish away from home".

Check out this Video to see a view of the Newman Center at NIU.

The Illinois Knights of Columbus dedicated themselves to the support of the Newman Catholic Campus Ministry in 1917 when they began supporting the Newman Foundation at the University of Illinois. In 1959, the Illinois State Council allocated funds for other schools throughout the state and today, we as Knights in Illinois, support more than 800,000 students enrolled in Illinois Colleges and Universities.

If we are to continue to evangelize our Catholic faith on the campuses of Illinois, and provide faith-based places and resources for college students, we need your help.

Zacchaeus House

Zacchaeus House (Luke 19) is a ministry of Catholic Deacons of the Archdiocese of Chicago offering hospitality to men in transition to stability in their lives.  This is a not-for-profit, non-treatment residential home for displaced men seeking an opportunity to better their situation following misfortune or mistake.  The house provides a secure environment of respect, order and peace while coaching men to sharpen their life skills, growth in self esteem and spiritual maturity towards achieving responsible and independent living.  The House subsists solely on the volunteer offerings of our benefactors.

Safe Environment Resolution

Safe Environment Resolution

Our council will vote on presenting the attached Safe Environment Resolution to the State Convention in May.

At last night's business meeting District Deputy Dick Lambke brought up an issue of importance about being compliant with Safe-Enviroment. In essecense what Safe Enviroment is a training course for four members of the Council, these are the Grand Knight, Program Director, Family Director, and Community Director. Once these four individuals has completed the course the Council is considered co
compliant. Yes, 6964 is compliant. However, many councils in the state are not with no repercussions. What this resolution intends to do is add a penalty for non-compliance.
Please read the attached resolution. We will be voting on it at the next business meeting. Just so you are aware you are voting to give permission to sign the resolution by the Grand Knight and Financial Secretary to send it to committe for further review. A no vote will not give permission.
Ponder it carefully.\\Thanx,

Vivat Jesus

Jon Mucker, Grand Knight
