Council Honored with Double Star Council Award

GREENEVILLE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL RECEIVES TOP INTERNATIONAL AWARD

Knights of Columbus Council 6784 of Greeneville has earned the distinction of being a Double Star Council, one of the  top awards for the organization's 2016-17 year.

Announcement of the award came from the organization's headquarters in New Haven, Conn.

Overall excellence in membership recruitment, retention, promotion of the fraternal insurance program, and sponsorship of service-oriented activities are key requisites for the award.

The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic lay organization.

The men of the Knights provide volunteer opportunities in service to the church, the local community, families and young people.

With more than 1.9 million members in more than 15,000 councils worldwide, the Knights of Columbus annually donates more than $177 million and 75 million hours of service to charitable causes.  State Deputy Tracy Staller made the presentation at a special ceremony on Oct. 16.

"Please accept my sincere congratulations upon attaining this prestigious award," said Carl A. Anderson, chief executive officer of the Knights of Columbus in a news release.

"Your dedication to the Order is seen in the high standard of excellence you have achieved," Anderson said.

"I encourage you to carry forward this enthusiasm to meet the challenges that will face the Knights of Columbus in the years ahead,"  Anderson said.  "May this award be a reminder and an inspiration to the members of your council to continue to promote the ideals of Columbianism for the good of the church, your community, and the Order."

Don Myers, head of the Greeneville chapter, said that, "receiving the Double Star Council Award is quite an honor for us.  We're extremely proud of the charitable work we do and the volunteerism our members commit to the local community."
