➢ Saint Michael is known as the Prince of the Heavenly Hosts and the defender of God’s people. According to the Catholic Bible Dictionary, Michael means “Who is like God?”. In the Book of Revelation, “Michael and his angels” battle the dragon, an ancient symbol of the devil, and throw him and his followers out of heaven. Christianity honors him as a patron of the nation of Israel, God’s chosen people of the Old Testament. Today, Michael is still thought of as a guardian of the Church, God’s people of the New Testament.

➢ Saint Raphael is mentioned in one book of the Bible—the Book of Tobit. His name can be translated as “God will Heal.” In the Book of Tobit, God sends Raphael to answer the prayers of two people: Tobit, who was blinded by bird droppings, and Sarah, who was harassed by a demon who killed any man she married. These two, on the same day, prayed to God for death. God answered their prayers by sending Raphael, who brought together Tobias, Tobit’s son, and Sarah. He also banished the demon that stalked Sarah and healed Tobit’s blindness in the same journey.

➢ Saint Gabriel appears once in the Old Testament and twice in the New Testament. His name means “God is my warrior” or “God is strong.” First, he is sent to the prophet Daniel in the time of the great exile to interpret visions concerning the coming of the Messiah. Second, he appears to Zechariah to foretell the birth of John the Baptist. St. Gabriel is best known, however, for appearing to Mary and announcing the birth of the Messiah, Jesus.

Transubstantiation - Eucharist

➢ The consecrated bread and wine are transformed into the Body and Blood of our Savior Jesus
Christ. This can only be done by a priest.
Receiving the Eucharist at Mass
➢ It is critical for us Catholics to have the utmost reverence for the consecrated Body and Blood.
(Fasting for 1 hour before receiving and be free of mortal sin.)
➢ Ushers at Mass are to observe people receiving to consume Holy Communion.
➢ Unfortunately, some people try to leave Mass with Holy Communion. In some cases, some of
these people may have nefarious intentions.
➢ I, as an usher at St. Anthony’s, needed to follow up with two people at Christmas Mass so that
they consume the host. Also, at Christmas Mass at St. Gabriel’s in McKinney, ushers had to go
to the parking lot to stop people from taking Holy Communion with them.

➢ The Pope decided to do an unplanned visit to a seminary’s chapel.
➢ Before the Pope entered the chapel, security personnel had to sweep the chapel using highly trained dogs which
are used to detect living people. (These dogs are used to detect survivors of disasters.)
➢ Upon reaching the tabernacle, the dogs refused to leave, pointing and fixed to a spot, signaling to their handlers that a
living person was present within the tabernacle.
➢ The tabernacle contained consecrated host.

➢ The articles describe Eucharistic miracles which have taken place over the past 40 years and at many locations.
➢ A reddish liquid came from Consecrated host.
➢ The reddish liquid and host were analyzed by scientists and medical experts who concluded that this liquid was human blood.
➢ Heart (cardiac) tissue was found to be interwoven with the bread fibers. In addition, white blood cells were found in the samples. These tissue and cells also showed signs of being stressed. (Which can be interpreted as the sacred heart of Jesus during His crucifixion.)
➢ 5 Eucharistic miracles have been tested for blood type. In all cases, the blood type is AB.
➢ Percentages of population of blood type AB is 5 % (or 1/20).
➢ Odds of 5 different random samples of AB blood type is
(1/20) × (1/20) × (1/20) × (1/20) × (1/20) =1/3,200,000, or 1 in 3.2 million!
➢ Other – Shroud of Turin (believed to be Jesus’s burial cloth) was found to have blood type AB on it. Odds of the 5 Eucharistic miracles and the Shroud of Turn having Type AB blood is 1 in 64 million!

PRIORITIES

Is Christ the center of your life?
➢ Most Catholics would say “Yes” but is He really?

What would you do?
➢ Suppose you can obtain last minute tickets to attend the Superbowl or a World Series game,
however, it would mean that you would miss Sunday Mass. What would you do?
➢ Work bosses and colleagues schedule a golf outing on Good Friday. Would you play?
➢ Would you stay late at work to help a difficult coworker knowing that you will not receive credit
from the boss?
➢ You have been saving for a special event or item. Just as you are about to make the purchase,
the priest notifies the parish that the church roof is leaking and needs to be replaced. The priest
requests parishioners make a sacrificial donation for this repair. What would you do?

“For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many.”

ARE YOU READY FOR THE SECOND COMING OF JESUS?

Easter Sunday/Ascension
➢ We joyously celebrated the resurrection of Jesus from an earthly death and His ascension to
heaven.
During Eucharistic Pray
➢ “Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.”
➢ Holy week and Easter focus on the “Christ has died and Christ is risen.”
➢ However, there is still “Christ will come again” part of the prayer.
➢ As stated in the Creed, “He will come to judge the living and the dead.”

Summary for Judgment
➢ It is not just about doing good or bad deeds.
➢ It is not just a belief in Jesus as God. Keep in mind, Satan also believes Jesus is God.
➢ It is about belief in Jesus as God and dedicating your life to Jesus. Our life’s philosophy needs to
be following Jesus’ philosophy and principles. Are yours?

THE POWER OF WORDS

Holy Week (in a few weeks)
➢ Jewish high priest spoke harshly and falsely about Jesus to the Pilate and the Romans.
➢ Spoken words are a big deal. Because of these spoken words, Jesus was tortured and crucified.

➢ We have all been wounded by words said to us in our lives.
➢ Perhaps this has occurred at work, home, church, when evangelizing, etc.
➢ Unfortunately, we may have also wounded or hurt others by our spoken words.

Lord Jesus Christ, You know suffering intimately and walked among the afflicted during Your
earthly life. Comfort those who mourn with Your tender presence and grant them Your
profound peace in their sorrow. Heal the brokenhearted, mend their wounded spirits, and
restore hope where despair has taken root in their lives. Protect the vulnerable from further
harm and provide them with refuge, safety, and security. Let Your divine light shine brightly in
the darkest places of their pain and confusion. Remind them of Your unwavering love and
constant presence in their darkest hours. You are their strength and solace in all their
afflictions. We place all victims into Your compassionate care.
Lord Jesus Christ, You willingly forgave those who crucified You, demonstrating boundless
mercy and compassion. Touch the souls of those individuals driven by hatred, misguided
ideologies, and destructive impulses. Show them the truly destructive path they follow and the
immense suffering they relentlessly inflict upon innocents. Call them away from a life of
violence, animosity, and despair towards Your divine love and endless compassion. Let Your
transformative power change their very being, their intentions, and their actions forever. You
are the Good Shepherd who seeks the lost sheep. Draw them back to Your loving embrace.

God the Holy Spirit, Advocate and Comforter, dwell within the hearts of all who have been
terrorized by senseless acts. Strengthen them with resilience, courage, and perseverance to
face each new day. Inspire compassion in others to support them with practical help and

unwavering solidarity. Guide humanitarian efforts to reach those in urgent need of assistance
and protection. Bring forth justice and reconciliation in communities torn apart by hatred and
division. Cultivate understanding and empathy among people who have been pitted against
each other. Empower them to rebuild their lives and their communities with renewed purpose.
You are the source of all consolation and inner peace.
God the Holy Spirit, You illuminate consciences, inspire goodness, and guide all to truth. Convict
those involved in terrorism of their grave sins against God, humanity, and all creation. Guide
them to abandon their destructive ways, hateful ideologies, and violent methods forever. Plant
seeds of compassion, empathy, and genuine remorse deeply within their souls. Lead them to
embrace a new life of profound peace, humble service to others, and true reconciliation. You
are the Spirit of truth who sets all captives free. Open their eyes to Your divine light. May Your

➢ People have opportunities for career advancement.
➢ Missed opportunities will not always come again.

➢ FYI – there were several Superbowl commercials promoting kindness.
➢ Sometimes we have opportunities to share our faith beliefs (when others need support or are
discerning decision choices).
➢ In faith discussions, if you cannot answer questions, investigate to get the answers.
Return to that person with the information.

you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited

➢ Using kindness can help diffuse a confrontational situation.
There is ALWAYS an opportunity to be kind to others (even if it requires patience on our part).

Be aware of windows of opportunity in our lives.

Acts of faith and kindness are a big deal. God says so!

SPIRTUAL ACTS OF MERCY

Lent
➢ Last week was Ash Wednesday – the start of our Lenten season.
➢ Catholics give up “things” and/or do sacrificial acts for Lent.
Knights of Colombus
➢ Last meeting – the discussion was about “Windows of Opportunity” for kindness to address our
human needs (effectively the Corporal Acts of Mercy).
➢ However, spiritual acts of mercy are actions that address people's spiritual, emotional, and
mental needs.
Spiritual Acts of Mercy (or acts of kindness for the spirit)
➢ Instruct the ignorant/uninformed.
➢ Counseling the doubtful.
➢ Admonishing sinners. (Encourage repentance.)
➢ Comforting the sorrowful/afflicted.
➢ Forgiving injuries/hurts willingly.
➢ Bearing wrongs patiently.
➢ Praying for the living and the dead. (Praying for the well-being of others.)

Some examples of spiritual acts of mercy/kindness
➢ Help someone understand our Catholic faith. If needed, direct them to the clergy. Talk to
kids/grandkids. Welcome people to Mass. Teach religious ed. classes.
➢ When you correct someone, do not be arrogant. No one needs to be lectured, just converse. We
are all in need of God's loving correction.
➢ Listening to those going through a tough time. Support them, do not “one up” them. Offer advice
for potential resources.
➢ Check up on individuals who are suffering. This can even be done via text messages.
➢ For mental health, support the Covenant House, Boys Town, and Cal’s Ranch. In addition, if needed,
provide the suicide hot line numbers 988 or 911.
➢ Forgive the people who have hurt you. (Perhaps this has happened with difficult family members or
people at work.)
➢ Be patient with others. Take a few deep breaths, pray the Our Father, asking God for patience.
➢ Pray for the living and the dead and for the well-being of others.

Every year the Hike for Life raises money to help various Pregnancy Resource Centers in our area with funds to use for operations.  I would encourage you to participate in one of three ways.

1.   Register to be a hiker, and ask family and friends to support your effort.
2.   Donate to someone who will be hiking.
3.   Volunteer to help the Hike for Life as a staff member.

Welcome Baskets for Seminarians

8 Dallas Seminarians Installed by Most. Rev. SK Edward J. Burns to the Ministry of Acolyte Including Seminarian SK Kyle Fletcher

On the afternoon of October 9, 2023 at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana, the Most Reverend Sir Knight Edward J. Burns, Bishop of Dallas, installed 25 seminarians to the ministry of acolyte, the second of four positions leading to their ordination to the priesthood in 2027. Acolytes aid deacons and minister to priests including the purification of sacred vessels, distribution of communion, and instructing others assisting during liturgical celebrations.

The 25 seminarians span 12 different dioceses and 1 religious community with eight being from the Diocese of Dallas. One of the eight Dallas seminarians, Sir Knight Kyle Fletcher, is a St. Anthony parishioner and member of Council 12300. He is the son of Sir Knight Patrick and Lady Linda Fletcher, and brother of Sir Knight Sean and brother‐in‐law of Lady Anne Marie Fletcher, who are also members of Council 12300.

Please pray for all of these seminarians, especially the eight Dallas seminarians, as they continue
their journey to the priesthood as they are the future of our church!

Cor Initiative

Knights of Columbus Council 12300 is excited to share the implementation of the Cor Meeting, a new formation and fraternal opportunity for all men of St. Anthony’s parish.  Cor is from the Latin phrase “Cor ad cor loquitor” or “Heart speaks to heart”.  The Cor Meeting exists to form and strengthen Catholic men in faith and virtue as missionary disciples drawing them into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ through prayer, formation and fraternity.

The  first Cor Meeting will be held at 7pm on Tuesday, August 29^th in Fr. Pondant Hall.  Activities to include a reflection on the Gospel of Matthew 18:21-35, Liturgy of the Hours-Evening Prayers and fellowship.  Come join your brother parishioners for light refreshments, prayer and fraternity.
