SPECIAL NOTICE from Fr. HEWES
We resumed the public celebration of Mass and the distribution of Holy Communion last weekend. The Extraordinary Form Sunday Latin Mass and the Saturday Spanish language Mass continue to be suspended as of now. I hope to resolve both celebrations soon.
As of this writing the prior conditions are still in effect, namely a 25% limitation as to total seating in the church; a requirement that all attendees must bring and wear a mask or a facial covering while in church; and there will be no “Sign of Peace” or Offertory Procession. The by now standard “social distance” of six-feet must be maintained other than within family groups.
These are all Diocesan and legal restrictions that we must for the time being follow.
Holy Communion will continue (as of this writing) to be distributed after Mass has been concluded and the Final Blessing given. The Communion line must maintain a six-foot distance between each communicant. Both the communicant and the Minister of Holy Communion will make every effort to avoid any contact with the fingers and hands of either party. Communion on the tongue will only be distributed to those kneeling at the usual section the Altar Rail (on the St. Joseph side.)
Obviously, patience and mutual cooperation will be necessary especially in this early phase of a return to what we all hope will be a normal liturgical and sacramental practice.
Bear in mind that the Obligation to attend Mass on Sunday is still suspended until further notice. Please use careful judgment in attending Mass and receiving Holy Communion if you feel sick, or if you are especially vulnerable to the Covid virus.
Please continue to visit the parish website www.smrcc.org for an online bulletin and the latest updates. The Parish telephone number 631-499-8520 is also updated and can give information as to Mass schedules, Funeral arrangements, Staff directory, etc.
The Parish also has a YouTube channel with a link directly on the parish website. I have been recording “fireside chats” ( without the fireside) for awhile now.
PS: I have been told by several parishioners that they have received emails or even texts purporting to be from asking for gift cards, donations, etc. from me.
This is a scam. The email addresses used are not mine. Please do not respond to those messages.
