June 2020

Ryan and Elona Rush

BK Ryan Rush and his mother, Elona, are our June
Family of the Month in appreciation for another
outstanding year of fund raising for our AZ State
Raffle. By taking the initiative to reach out to their
extended family, the Rush's consistently have set
the standard within our Council for ticket sales in
recent years. This year the Rush's raised over $500
or roughly 20% of the total amount raised by our
Council. Thank you, Ryan and Elona, for your
dedicated teamwork in support of our State Raffle
and thanks also to your extended family for
generously responding to your outreach every year!

May 2020

Ron & Mary Ann Gretka

SK Ron Gretka, and his wife Mary Ann are our May Family of the Month for once again stepping up to chair our Council's Lenten Soup and Bread program. In addition to scheduling the soup cooks and kitchen help, the Gretka's each week shopped for and donated the bread and salad items (a new menu item this year). The program was cut short this year after just 3 Fridays due to the Coronavirus, but our Council and parishioners very much appreciate the Gretka's for providing this very nice social event before Stations of the Cross on Fridays during Lent!

March 2020

Mark & Carissa Krautscheid

Our March Family of the Month is Mark and Carissa

teacher at Our Mother of Sorro ws Catholic School. He joined our

presently serves as the Faithful Scribe in our Assembly. Carissa is
the Advancement and Communications Coordinator in the
Advancement Department at Salpointe Catholic High School and
she is also Content Facilitator for the Catalina Foothills Catholic

Words ministry at St. Thomas. Thank you, Mark and Carissa, for
your dedicated and selfless service to our Parish and Community!

February 2020

Lloyd & Erin LaComb

SK Lloyd and Erin LaComb are our “Family of the Month” for February. Lloyd works as a Research Professor in the James C. Wyant College of Optical Sciences at the U of A. Most of you know Lloyd as the long serving Program Chair and money collector for our highly popular Pancake Breakfasts. What you may not know is Lloyd volunteers over 300 additional hours each year in support of the Thanksgiving and Christmas Angel Gift Drives, and the Mass and Dinner with the Bishop (MDB). Erin has worked for many years as our parish Administrative Assistant. In that role, not only does she keep our priests organized, she also is the “Air Traffic Controller”, who coordinates the scheduling of every event that requires the use of parish facilities throughout the year. Erin also puts in many volunteer hours alongside Lloyd supporting the Food Drives and MDB. Thank you, Lloyd and Erin, for your tireless service to our Council, our parish, and our community!

January 2020

Phil & Jane Lacovara

SK Phil stepped up to fill the Financial Secretary position in July and has worked tirelessly to streamline processes related to the Council's financial transactions and membership record keeping. Phil can always be counted upon to take multiple shifts on weekends, when the Council is fund raising in the courtyard. Jane is an accomplished oncology nurse, who is frequently invited to lecture at medical conferences around the world. Jane is also an active member of the Newman Sustaining Board. Thank you, Phil and Jane, for your service to our Council, Parish, and Community!

Dr. Randy Dull & Dr. Ann Marie Canelas

Dr. Canelas is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the UofA. In addition to their accomplished professional careers, both are devoted to their family and faith. Randy regularly volunteers for our Pancake Breakfasts and courtyard fundraising activities. Ann Marie is leading a new prayer initiative at St. Thomas, "Maximilian's Marian Militia", which enlists parishioners to devote one hour per week in prayer for the ministry of the priesthood, priests, and the growth of the Catholic Church. Randy and Ann Marie, thank you for all you do in service to our Parish and Community!

November 2019

Allan & Barbara Reith

PGK Allan and Barbara Reith are our November Family of the Month. Allan was the driving force behind a project to install new windows at the Sisters' and Priests' residences at the Newman Center over the past two years and during that time also served as our Council Representative to the Arizona Rosary Celebration. Barbara is Newman Sustaining Board member and a member of our Church Choir. Allan and Barbara for several years have served as our Council's ambassadors for the Coats for Kids program as they receive, sort, and deliver the coats to locals schools and parishes.
