Albert Mario Donato, Jr. was born in Indianapolis, Indiana July 22, 1941. He attended St. Roch Catholic Grade School. Al attended Culver Woodcraft camps and graduated from the Culver Summer Naval School in 1958. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1959 and attended Wabash College and graduated from Indiana University in 1964 with a BA degree in Economics. There he participated in IU Student Foundation, was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and the Sphinx Club. After graduation, he worked for Western Electric as a manager. Then he was a supervising principal stock broker with Fulton Reed and Staples Indianapolis office, later the William C. Roney & Co. From there he joined Thomas and Associates Commercial Real Estate Company and was the Vice President. In 1988, he founded Acorn Group a commercial real estate company and property management firm in Indianapolis where he was President and CEO until 2011 where continued on as CEO and Chairman of the Board. Earlier, he was the past president and director of the local Building Owners and Managers Association and served BOMA International as a member of the finance committee, the strategic long-range planning task force, the medical building section and the building renovation and rehabilitation section. He was also a member of the Institute of Real Estate Management and the National Parking Association. Al was a former member and President of Highland Golf and Country Club, the Indianapolis Athletic Club and enjoyed affiliations with Junto of Indianapolis and Downtown Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed traveling with his late wife, Ann Thomas Donato where they spent time together in the Caribbean Islands, Italy, England, Scotland, Ireland and China. He especially enjoyed sailing the Greek Islands in a 70? sailboat with his dear friends. He spent his winters in Florida and loved having his children and grandchildren visit. He was most recently a member of St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church in Fishers, IN. He previously was a member of St. Alphonsus Liguori Church in Zionsville, IN. He was a very active member of that parish as a Eucharistic Minister and reflected closely with friends in his Cursillo group. He was on the building committee for their new church and was currently involved in another building project there. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council #12510 and more recently a member of Council #6923. Al was preceded in death by his parents Marie Elizabeth Marascio Donato and Dr. Albert Mario Donato, Sr., and his wife Ann Thomas Donato. He leaves behind a sister, Elaine Marie Boltin, a daughter; Lisa Ann Donato Goss (G. Michael Goss, II), two sons; Albert Mario Donato, III (Christina LaFevor Donato) and Michael Anthony Donato (Penny Howell Donato), seven grandchildren; Adrianna Nicole Goss, Adena Corinne Goss, Victoria Louise Donato, Nicole Marie Donato, Audrey Ann Donato, Isabella Marie Donato and Albert Mario Donato, IV. |
