Norman J. Singleton 99, Carmel, passed away January 1, 2010. Born July 29, 1910 in Ft. Wayne, he married Virginia Schultz in 1938, who preceded him in passing. In 1984 he married Mary Hoover, who also preceded him in passing. A 1933 business graduate of Butler University, Norman was the first in his family to complete college. He worked for General Electric for 40 years starting as a messenger boy while a student at Central Catholic High School in Ft. Wayne. He retired in 1975 as manager of finance from the Linton, IN, plant where he worked for 23 years. While at GE he received the company s Gerald L. Phillippe Award for distinguished public service and in 1969 was named Mr. Citizen of Linton by the Civitan Club. In retirement, Norman lived in Phoenix, AZ, and Carmel. Throughout his life he was an active member of the Catholic church. Norman is survived by his children David Singleton, Indianapolis; John (Carol) Singleton, Houston, TX; James (Judy) Singleton, Indianapolis; Elizabeth Singleton (Steve Nelson), Arcadia; brother, Art Singleton; 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, and his long-time friend Patricia Strasburg, Carmel. Services will be January 7 at 10:00 am, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 10655 Haverstick Road. |
