ASSEMBLY #148 - ARCHBISHOP FITZMAURICE ASSEMBLY REMEMBERS
PETER J FITZGERALD
JULY 2024

Peter Joseph Fitzgerald, Jr., age 66, of Bear, Delaware, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Peter was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Archbishop Ryan High School and attended Saint Joseph’s University, where he earned his accounting degree. In later years, he graduated with a Master's in Business Administration. Peter worked as an accountant for several different businesses over his career. In addition, he volunteered countless hours as a treasurer and auditor for many nonprofits. He was a fourth-degree Knights of Columbus member of the Seton Council #7990, serving as the council's Grand Knight for three years. Peter and his family were charter members of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. He loved serving as a catechist and teaching religious education to middle school children over the years.

Peter was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved vacations with his family, especially camping in their pop-up camper. He and his family shared many laughs and fun times over the holidays and with family game nights, especially playing Trivial Pursuit. Peter loved to golf and was an avid Philadelphia sports fan. His love for the holidays, especially Christmas time, was well known among his family and friends. He was often teased for decorating his home and office to the level of Clark W. Griswold. Peter was a kind and generous man, always giving of himself, whether coaching soccer, serving at church, volunteering with the Knights of Columbus, or providing accounting services. He was a selfless and dependable man. He and his wife loved traveling throughout Europe with their group of friends.

Peter left an indelible mark on everyone who was blessed to know him. He will be forever loved and treasured in the hearts of his family and friends.

Peter is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Suzanne T. Fitzgerald; his sons: John Fitzgerald (Lauren) and James Fitzgerald (Mary) and his daughter, Erin Fitzgerald; his siblings: Steve Fitzgerald (Nancy), Kathleen Curley (James), Mark Fitzgerald (Anne Marie) and Meg Young (Scott); and his precious grandson, Cole Fitzgerald. Peter is also survived by a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Patricia and Peter Fitzgerald Sr.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 10-11 AM on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 345 Bear Christiana Rd., Bear, DE 19701.
