FR. GERALD MYERS

Reverend Gerald Myers entered into eternal rest on December 25, 2023. He was born November 12, 1934, in St. Paul, Minnesota to Agnes Lois Barney and Myron Harold Myers. His Irish heritage came from his mother and his Jewish from his father. His grandparents were Joseph Miles Barney and Marcella Jane Jackson, and Jacob David Myers and Ida Jacobs.

In 1952 he left St. Paul to join the Jesuits for eleven years. He received his Master's Degree at Marquette University, where he met and married Joan Marie Rohr of Marysville, Ohio. Together they had a son David Lawrence (Sanja) and a daughter Rachel Jane. He re-entered the seminary and was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Fargo, North Dakota on June 4, 1994, serving in North Dakota including at St. Boniface in Walhalla, North Dakota. He moved to the Diocese of Tucson on April 1, 2001, where he was assigned at St. Francis de Sales Parish in Tucson, Immaculate Conception Parish in Yuma, St. Philip the Apostle Parish in Payson, and Sacred Heart Parish in Nogales. In addition, Fr. Myers served as the Spiritual Director for the Magnificat Ministry and the Vine of Grace Retreat Ministry, He retired from active ministry in September of 2015 but retained close relationships with many of his former parishioners.

He was close to his three aunts: Ruth Hill, Ellen Rooney and Mildred Barney, and to three cousins: Roxanne and Kathy Rooney and Carolyn Barney. He is survived by his only brother Keith Gregory, who accompanied him through his whole life. He is also survived by his son, David Lawrence Myers, and David’s wife, Sanja, and his daughter Rachel Jane.

A Wake was celebrated for Fr. Myers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2nd, at Brings Funeral home, 6910 East Broadway Boulevard, Tucson, Arizona, with a Rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
