After serving in the United States Air Force as Staff Sergeant, Larry went on to work as a Long Island Railroad Police Officer. He was an active member of the Grand Knight and Color Corp Commander, Saints Cosmas & Damian Council #13341.
Larry was a loving and devoted husband, dad, and grandfather. He always put his family and friends above his own needs. Larry was a frequent Eucharist Minister at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church. He played golf weekly with his Knights of Columbus buddies and occasionally with his wife Sandy. Larry was a kind and gentle man who was always willing to help when needed.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandy; loving sons, Dennis Simmons (Linda) and Jamie Simmons (Theresa); sisters, Nancy Douty and Diane Bellow; and his cherished grandchildren, Kyle, Madison, Abigail, Alexander, and Cassidy. Besides his parents, Larry is also preceded in death by his brothers, Terry and Richard Simmons.
A funeral mass for Larry will be held Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, 12905 State Rd 70 E, Lakewood Ranch, FL 34202. Following the funeral mass will be a graveside service with military honors at 12:30 PM at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota, FL 34241.
Serving as pallbearers are Dennis Simmons, Jamie Simmons, Kyle Simmons, Alexander Simmons, Douglas Negretti and Gerard Negretti. |
