January 26, 1944 - July 14, 2023

Raymond J. Humenik, loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, of Ashburn, VA, formerly of Dale City, VA, entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 14, 2023. Ray was born on January 26, 1944 to Andrew and Anna Humenik in Gary, Indiana. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Martha J. of 39 years, they were married in 1969, and had one son Christopher Michael.

Ray attended St. Bonaventure Minor Seminary and High School in Sturtevant, Wisconsin. He served honorably in the US Navy for 5 years where he served as a Photographer's Mate. After his time in the service Ray served as a longtime federal employee with the Department of Defense as photographer.

Ray was a very kind man and was generous with his time, talent, and treasure. He was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Dale City, VA, where served as an usher and as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. He also served as an Usher for several years at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC.

Ray was an active member of Knights of Columbus, having served continuously for 45 years. He was a Past Grand Knight of John Paul I Council 7165 and was also a 4th Degree member of the Fr. Edward L. Richardson, SMA Assembly 3174. Ray was a Sir Knight for 32 years. He volunteered for many things; Special Olympics, 4th of July Parade, Church Festival, Christmas tree, Firework, and Sub sales, Bingo, to name a few. Ray also served as the Council's Photographer for a number of years. Ray and Martha were honored with being selected as Family of the Year by the Virginia State Council for fraternal year 1997.

Ray was also known for organizing block parties and 4th of July fireworks displays for their neighborhood. He was also an active member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, and a stalwart member of local NARFE Chapter 1270. He served as the Newsletter Editor for many years.

Ray is survived by his son Christopher (Jodi), granddaughter Alexis Grace Humenik, and sister Maryanne (Larry Basista), as well as numerous friends.

Visitation was held on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at 4:00 pm at Mountcastle-Turch Funeral Home and Crematory - Dale City, 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City, VA 22193. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, August 4, 2023 at 12:30 pm at Holy Family Catholic Church, 14160 Ferndale Rd, Woodbridge, VA 22193. The celebrant of the Mass was Father Jack O'Hara. Ray was laid to rest with military honors at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Rd, Triangle, VA 22172.
