Alan E. Peters, 77, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away on March 22, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Alan was born in Elizabeth, NJ on June 24, 1945 to Francis C. and Helen M. Peters. He graduated from ALJ Regional High School in Clark, New Jersey in 1963, where he developed lifelong friendships playing football. He went on to study Business Administration and Economics at Parsons College, graduating in 1967. While in college, he was a dedicated member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He began his sales career at Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company in New York City but was drafted shortly thereafter into the U.S. Army 1st Infantry Division, aka “Big Red One”. Alan served courageously from 1967 to 1969 during the Vietnam War and received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. After leaving the service, he continued to thrive academically and professionally, always welcoming new challenges and opportunities. In 1986, Alan started his own firm, Alan E. Peters and Associates in Wilmington, Delaware, specializing in insurance, investments and estate planning. For 30 years, Alan built personal relationships with his clients and their families. To expand his knowledge of the financial industry, he went on to earn two Master’s degrees in Financial Services and Management from the American College. He was an adjunct professor at Wilmington College teaching personal finance and a frequent guest speaker on WDEL’s financial talk radio. Alan was an avid reader, golfer and outdoor enthusiast. He looked forward to Saturday mornings at Wilmington Country Club with his 9-19 golfing buddies, always choosing to walk the course. Alan served in many leadership roles in his community. He was actively involved in his church, serving as a lector and member of the Knights of Columbus St. Joseph on the Brandywine council 15436 and Archbishop Fitzmaurice Assembly 148. Alan is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Claudia; children Andrew (Heather) Peters and Meghan Geary; and grandchildren Mackie and Grayson Peters, Alison and Catharine Geary.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation (alzfdn.org) or the Wounded Warrior Project (support.woundedwarriorprotect.org).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph on The Brandywine Catholic Church, 10 Old Church Road, Wilmington, DE 19807. A visitation will be held at church prior to mass from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow the mass in St. Joseph’s on The Brandywine Cemetery.
