Sir Knight Larry Paul Smith, 71, of Nacogdoches, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 in Nacogdoches. Mr. Smith has an Honorary Life member of the Order. Larry served as a trustee for both Council 7553 and Assembly 2665. Larry received his 1st degree on October 25, 1993, 2nd and 3rd degree on May 22, 1994 and 4th degree on March 11, 1995. Larry was born on December 1, 1946, in Sabine County, the son of Leroy and Sybil Smith. Larry Paul was raised in Hemphill, where he graduated from high school. During his younger years, he developed a love of fast cars and spent many hours working on and even racing them. His brother, Roy Glynn and his friends would certainly attest to his fast driving and occasional "scare" while riding with him. Soon after graduation, Larry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam war period. During this time, he was decorated with many honors, including multiple citations, bars, and badges, as well as 4 bronze stars. Following his service to our country, he returned to East Texas and worked at Nibco and Lone Star. He was a hard-working man who humbly provided for his family. He also loved fishing, and later, developed an enjoyment of hunting. Larry enjoyed mowing and working in the yard. His fun-loving demeanor and vibrant smile are something that will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. |
