Mark Wayne Mutz left this world peacefully at the age of 55 from his home in Canyon Lake, Texas, on Monday, June 7, 2010, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.


He was born on Jan. 14, 1955, in Poth to Sylvester and Annie Moczygemba Mutz.

Mark graduated from Falls City High School in 1973. He was employed in the construction industry as a welder. He was dedicated to his faith, having taught religious instruction and serving as a member and Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. Mark was active in assisting in the construction of numerous church projects to meet the growing need of his parish family.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Archie Jarzombek.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Mutz; his son, Nathan Mutz and Jamie Schuster; his stepson, D.J. Hinds; his stepdaughters, Melissa Newton and Marlena Hinds; his grandson, Dylan Mutz; and his stepgrandchildren, Gabriel Newton, Christan Rivera, Matthew Rivera, Jessica Newton, Jillian Hinds, Kaydence Morree, and Devon Schuster.

He is also survived by his sisters, Almarene Jarzombek, Anna Kramer and husband Erwin, Jerelene Pawelek and husband T.D., Evangeline Buehring, Helen Brysch and husband James, and Judy Murphy and husband Tim; his brothers, Kasper Mutz, Virgil Mutz and wife Janice, Sylvester “Lucky” Mutz and wife Carol, and Patrick Mutz and wife Corrine; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation was held Thursday and Friday, June 10-11, in the Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in Canyon Lake. A rosary was recited by Deacon Paul Hunsucker and Knights of Columbus members on Friday at 7 p.m.

Father Dennis Jarzombek celebrated the funeral Mass with the assistance of Deacon Paul Hunsucker on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Canyon Lake.

Interment followed in the Hill Country Memorial Garden. Serving as pallbearers were Knights of Columbus members Howard Robinson, Daniel N. Cummings, Jim Cranny, Ed Glishy, Clifford R. Hall Sr., and Glenn N. Gonzales.
