Col. Florian A. Holm passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2003 at his ranch in Fischer, Texas. at the age of 89.
He was born on September 20, 1913 in Hays, Kansas to Victor Holm and Frances Agrelius Holm. Col. Holm graduated from flight school in 1939 and served a distinguished thirty year career in the Army Air Corps and United States Air Force. His Air Force service included Command of the 461st B-29 Squadron stationed on Okinawa in 1944. Following the war, there were many other important assignments; one of which included his and Marie‚s three years in Stockholm, Sweden, where Col. Holm served as the Air Intelligence Officer to the U.S. Embassy. Following that, Col. Holm served as the Vice Commander of the Foreign Technology Division at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. Florian later became a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church at Canyon Lake where he was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Cattlemen’s Association of Texas.
Survivors include his loving and faithful wife of sixty-one years, Marie Shelly Holm; children, Victor Holm and wife Julie, Carolyn Holm Allison and husband Ted, Dwight Holm and wife Rita, Mark Holm and wife Cathie, Cynthia Holm Stevens and husband, Kent and Mike Holm; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Col. Holm was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Eric Holm; daughter, Linda Holm Long and by a granddaughter, Nicole Holm.
Visitation will be held on Sunday evening, Sept. 21, 2003, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home at Sattler. A Rosary will be recited on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church at Canyon Lake with Monsignor Marvin Doerfler Celebrant. Burial will follow at 2:15 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.
Memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society.
