Yorktown Independence Day Parade

Father John P. Washington Assembly 2184 will participate  in the Yorktown Independence Day Parade on Saturday, July 4, 2026, along the historic Yorktown waterfront.

This is a special opportunity for our Assembly to witness to our Catholic faith, celebrate our nation’s independence, and support the patriotic outreach of the Knights of Columbus in our local community.

The parade is expected to step off at approximately 8:50 AM. Assembly members who wish to participate are asked to arrive no later than 8:00 AM to allow time for parking, staging, and any final preparations.

The usual muster and staging area is the beach picnic area on the York River waterfront, and the National Park Service Visitor Center has traditionally been the recommended parking location for parade participants, as other lots tend to fill quickly.

All Brother Knights are welcome to participate, whether marching or riding. Two vehicles will be available this year, including a truck with a trailer set up with seating, so members and spouses who prefer not to walk the full route may still take part.

Knights in regalia or other appropriate patriotic attire are encouraged, and those not marching in Color Guard may still walk with the group, carry flags, or ride on the vehicles.

Miniature American flags will be available for marchers to hand directly to spectators along the route, especially to children. Parade rules strictly prohibit tossing or throwing any objects from a moving vehicle, float, or while walking.

Flags must be handed directly to people in the crowd to avoid safety and liability issues for both the parade organizers and the Knights.

This year’s Yorktown Independence Day Parade is also part of the broader observance of the 250th anniversary era of our nation’s founding, making it a particularly meaningful occasion to stand together as Catholic gentlemen, citizens, and Knights of Columbus.

Participation from Saint Bede Council #6828 will help make our presence more visible and highlight the values of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism that guide our Order.

Further details may be shared as they become available from the parade organizers and the Assembly.

Q&A

To confirm, the digital pdf Form 4 does not require any signatures except by the Master, which is the final step.

There is a newer version but we have no fillable pdf version of that form. It will help if Supreme would provide updates for both the paper and digital versions. The required information remains the same, so the brand new and somewhat older forms are acceptable.

There should be just two options for candidate applications:

  1. The current Form 4 dated 10-20 should be used as a 4-sheet paper original,  physically signed and mailed to the exemplification AA along with the all other Assembly deliverables. There is no digital version of this form.
  2. The current fillable pdf Form 4 dated 12/14 is the only digital version. It shall remain as the only downloadable Form 4.

Fourth Degree Memorial Preferences — Why It Matters

Every Fourth Degree Knight is encouraged to have a current Memorial Preferences Form on file with the Faithful Comptroller. This document ensures that, at the time of a member’s passing, his wishes regarding Fourth Degree honors are clearly known and can be carried out with dignity and respect.

Having your preferences documented:

  • Removes uncertainty for your family during a difficult time
  • Allows the Assembly to respond promptly and appropriately
  • Ensures your desired level of participation in Fourth Degree memorial honors is honored
  • Preserves the traditions of the Order in a manner consistent with your wishes

Keeping this information current is equally important. Changes in parish affiliation, family contacts, or personal preferences can affect how arrangements are coordinated.

Submitting and maintaining this form is a simple but important step that helps your Assembly serve you and your family with clarity, reverence, and proper protocol.
