Bishop Soto and Knights of Columbus Together

Bishop Soto talks about the Knights of Columbus supporting the Church in many ways. He encourages all Catholic men to consider becoming a Knight. Several Brother Knights and our Chaplin from the Northern California Chapter provide additional information about the Knights of Columbus to help men in their considerations.

St. Lawrence the Martyr Catholic Church

In 1955, Father Virgil Gabrielli was tasked to build a new parish, St. Lawrence the Martyr, in North Highlands.  He was a Brother Knight almost as long as he had been a priest, and so he called together a number of men of and formed the St. Bernadette of Lourdes Council Number 4991 on June 5, 1960.  Members of that organizing committee included Ray Persik, DD Don Payette, Norman Laux, and Ignacious J. Gruenwald.  The Council grew and soon included members from Our Lady of Lourdes and the McClellan AFB Chapel.  We also had members from the newly created parish of St. Clare in the Antelope area.

We remained as St. Bernadette of Lourdes Council Number 4991 until the death of Msgr. Gabrielli, July 1, 1979.  We changed our name to Monsignor Virgil Gabrielli Council Number 4991 in September 1979 to honor his memory and tireless dedication to the Knights of Columbus.
