July's Knight of the Month is an outstanding Knight who set the example to be more engaged visibly when addressing Pro-Life issues. He accomplishes this thorough his tenacity and fortitude for recommending, Chairing and managing the Council's "Witness for Life" program which helped promote Pro-Life demonstrations in front of the Abortion Clinic located in Manassas, VA. He created a letter explaining the program and helped set-up the Council website Calendar, with the assistance of the Worthy Treasurer Tom Browne, so that Council Members who wished to participate could sign-up on the date they wished to demonstrate and was instrumental in securing new protest signs through the Council to help the Pro-life Ministry at St. Andrews Parish to present a more definitive message to choose life.
November’s Knight of the Month is an outstanding Knight . He is our Donut Team Coordinator and is always there to pitch in. He can always be counted on to help with collections, set up events or assist with setting up coffee for special events for the Council and other parish organizations. He is like many of our Knights, who work hard and never seek the limelight but helps the Council in many ways. Most recently he co-chaired the Council Pasta Dinner and produced another wonderful Italian feast. So it gives me great pleasure to recognize Pasta Grand Knight, Brother Rich Flaherty as our November Knight of the Month.
October’s Knight of the Month is an outstanding Knight. He is one of our stalwart Donut Team Captains and is always there to pitch in. He can always be counted on to help with collections, set up events or assist with setting up coffee for special events for the Council and other parish organizations. He is like many of our Knights, who work hard and never seek the limelight but helps the Council in many ways. So it gives me great pleasure to recognize Brother Bob Murphy as our October Knight of the Month .
Rev. Joseph Bergida
The Knight of the Month for August is a Second Degree Knight. He is new to our Parish and yet has made a profound impact on our Council and our Parish. He is very hard working and cheerful and is welcoming to all who meet him. Recently he volunteered to take on a very important event for our Council and made it the most successful event of its kind ever. He is a great promoter of the Knights and of the Church – if he weren’t he would probably be fired! I am of course talking about our very own Father Bergida. He is an outstanding priest and an accomplished presenter, as evidenced by his presentation on “St. Peter’s Art, Architecture, Faith and Foundation” presented on Tuesday, September 17th. The 80 people who attended his discussion and slide show were rewarded with an entertaining, educational and spiritually inspiring presentation. It is with great pleasure that I recognize Father Bergida as our Knight of the Month for August. (By the way, if anyone can get him to sign the Form 100 to get him to transfer to our Council I would appreciate it!)
Reverend John D. Kelly
This Knight you all know. He is at almost all of our events and activities. He is an ardent supporter and promoter of the Knights. He works tirelessly for the Church. He is a caring and generous man. In fact if it were not for him we would not have been able to collect the donations that went to help our sister parish, St. Andrew the Apostle, in Moore, Oklahoma. So it gives me great pleasure to recognize Father John D. Kelly as our Knight of the Month for July 2013.
This is the last Knight of the Month for the 2012-2013 Fraternal Year. And it is fitting that we save one of the best for last, as this Knight has been active all year. You have seen him at all the events. You have seen him at every meeting. And you have heard his thought-provoking, contemplative, humorous and inspiring words at each business meeting. Not only has he provided food for though t, he has provided food at each meeting. I am talking about our Lecturer, Joe Beres. Joe spent a lot of time preparing for each presentation for the “edification and enjoyment” of his fellow brothers. Whether it was a discussion on origination of the pretzel or whether or not there really was an Adam and Eve, each presentation was informative and inspiring and the snacks and beverages were appreciated. For his dedication and devotion, I am proud to recognize Joseph J. Beres as June’s Knight of the Month. Thanks Joe! So the only question is, Joe – did Adam and Eve have belly buttons?
The Knight of the Month for May is a Knight of many talents, including amazing organizational skills, meticulous planning abilities and nearly inexhaustible energy and patience. Through his leadership and guidance, he and his committee planned, scheduled, coordinated and executed the most successful charitable event in the Council’s history raising over $5,000 for Charity. It is my great pleasure and honor to recognize Tom Browne as May’s Knight of the Month for his outstanding work as the Third Annual Golf Tournament Chairman. Well Done Tom!!!!!
Sometimes it is really hard to select just one outstanding Knight when we have several deserving Knights doing outstanding work. April’s Knight of the Month truly exemplifies the Order’s virtue of Charity and embodies this year’s Council’s motto of “We Are Our Brother’s Keeper”. When our Knight of the Month heard that there was a Brother Knight in need who was receiving notices from the Homeowner’s Association about the condition of his yard that he could no longer take care of because of a serious debilitating illness, our Knight did not hesitate to take action. Without regard for reimbursement or acknowledgement, our Knight of the Month has had his lawn service company take care of our ailing Brothers lawn and grounds. This is what the Knights are all about - unselfish Charity! Therefore it gives me great pleasure to recognize Brother Tim Speidel as our April Knight of the Month. Way to go Tim – a big man with a big heart!
The Knight of the Month for March has been a Knight for over 20 years. He has supported nearly every major activity this Council has undertaken - quietly and unassumingly. He is generous beyond description and often absorbs the printing costs for our functions. He is charitable, supportive and helps how ever he can despite running a very demanding business. It is with great pride and pleasure I recognize Brother Kevin McCabe as the Knight of the Month for March. Thank you for all you do in support of the Council.
The Knight of the Month recently stepped forward to be the Council Program’s Chairman and has dived in with both feet. In addition to assisting on several initiatives he headed up the Super Bowl Party and made this event an evening to remember even if the Super Bowl commercials and games were not so memorable. It gives me great pleasure to recognize Jackie Stash as our Knight of the Month for February! Congratulations Jackie!
Richard Flaherty, PGK
The Knight of the Month for February led, planned, coordinated or participated in nearly every event we have had this year. His most recent soiree was the Pasta Dinner that he expertly planned and executed mustering the needed personnel, getting flyers printed up, arranging for the live musical entertainment and attending to every detail to ensure a successful event and an enjoyable evening for all. It is with great pleasure I recognize Past(a) Grand Knight Richard Flaherty. Well Done Rich!
The Knight of the Month Chaired the Council Christmas Party. Being innovative he changed the traditional menu to Chinese food, much to the satisfaction of all who joined the festivities. Tom and his wife Denise ensured we all had a good time with fun and frolic. It is with great pleasure that we recognize Tom Martin, our Deputy Grand Knight, as Knight of the Month for December 2012.
Mark Mulholland, PGK
The Knight of the Month for November took on the monumental task of planning, organizing and executing our Annual Father Charles A. Ryan’s Memorial Thanksgiving Food Drive. Arranging for a refrigerated truck; getting donations from local stores; getting flyers printed and boxes picked up and coordinating labor – is all slightly less complicated than a moon launch. But through it all our stellar Knight of the Month did it and did it well with a hopeful and cheerful heart. With the help of 27 Brother Knights, their families and friends, and the generosity of our fellow parishioners the Council collected 243 boxed meals, 183 turkeys, and many miscellaneous food items. Of these amounts, the St Clare Council (12963) contributed 39 boxed meals, 29 turkeys, and 7 boxes of miscellaneous items. A staggering total of over 7900 pounds of food for the needy families in our parish and community! Congratulations to Mark Mulholland for a job well done! Kevin Craddock would have been proud.
The Knight of the Month for October is a Brother who neither seeks nor wants recognition. He is an Usher at St. Andrew’s and at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. He is the Chairman of Blood Drives and recently headed up the Voter Registration Drive. He is a staunch Catholic and fine Knight of Columbus. It is with great pleasure that I recognize Mike D’Aiuto as the Knight of the Month for October.
This month it was particularly difficult to select just one Brother out of so many worthy Brothers for Knight of the Month. However, it is my pleasure to recognize Brother Joseph Marter as Knight of the Month for September. Joe was a key member of the 20th Anniversary Planning Committee. Although all members of the Planning Committee did an outstanding job, Joe Marter was responsible for the design, layout and print-ready editions of the Save-the-Date cards, the 20th Anniversary Invitations, the 20th Anniversary Keepsake Program, the Award placards and the video that hallmarked the achievements of the Council that played throughout the banquet. Joe quietly went about his craft attending to every detail until these products were as perfect as could be. For all his diligence, ingenuity, innovation and hard work it is my pleasure to recognize Joseph Marter as Knight of the Month.
The July Knight of the Month for August is Joe Micari. Joe’s work as the Sick and Ill Outreach Chairman is making a difference in the lives of sick and ill members of the Council and their families. This dedication is reflective of the vision of Father McGivney and in doing so he is being Christ’s Light and is in keeping with our theme of “I Am My Brother’s Keeper.” Congratulations Joe.
James Auwaerter, PGK
The July Knight of the Month is Immediate Past Grand Knight James Auwaeter. He is being recognized for all his many contributions and dedication as Grand Knight for the Fraternal Year 2011-2012. Through his efforts the Council has continued to grow and received the State Deputy Award. Thank you James.
The Gillespie Family
October 2015's Family of the Month is the Family of our Worthy Recorder Jeffery Gillespie. Jeff, his wife Patricia and family are very active in St Andrew's Church supporting many Church ministries as well as many Council Events and Activities. Patricia is a very active member of the Council's Ladies Auxiliary participating in many of the Auxiliary’s programs. For example helping to organize and support “Baby Bottle Campaign" re-enforcing the Church’s teachings that support life and the values of the family. Our Worthy Recorder Jeff, aside from his other Council Duties, took on the position of Program Chair for the "Compton Road Clean-up" and he and his son Jonathan were exemplified to the 4th Degree on October 31st, 2015. The Council expresses immense gratitude for the Gillespie Family's dedication to service and unwavering support of the Faith, the Church and the Council. Thank you for all that you do.
November’s Family of the Month has a hectic schedule visiting Ireland and going back and forth to New York. Yet despite a crazy schedule this family is essential to one of our key fundraisers. Their fantastic culinary skills make our Pasta Dinners a wonderful affair and Knights and Parish member’s lineup to partake of this bi-annual feast. They are steadfast Catholics and staunch supporters of the Church. So it gives me great pleasure to recognize Jim and Clare Tierney as our November Family of the Month
October’s Family of the Month is at every function and always volunteers to help make our events and meetings go smoothly. They are always there to set up the Hall or the events; they work the events and then help to tear down the events and they stay until it is all cleaned-up. This Knight is in charge of all of our supplies and materials and was a major factor in setting up our first ever soup to nuts inventory (and yes there was soup and nuts). This Knight is also an Usher and can be found at the Vigil Mass helping set up and finding a family to bring up the offertory gifts. As a single parent it is amazing all that this Knight does, but he and his son are there at every event. They are devout Catholics and strong supporters of our Priests. So it gives me great pleasure to recognize our Warden, Brother Mike Paulucci and his son Andrew as our October Family of the Month.
You can find this family every Saturday at the Vigil Mass being vigilant in lining up the ushers and a couple to bring up the gifts. Rain or shine they are there quietly and unassumingly , serving the Church and the Council. This Knight also co-chairs our annual KOVAR campaign along with Brian Skokan (another stellar Knight!). This family is a wonderful Catholic family supporting our Church and our Priests. I am of course talking about Lou Cernak, his wife JoAnn and daughter Jennifer. It is with great pleasure that I recognize the Cernak family as the Family of the Month for August.
This family of the month is relatively new to our Council, but that has not stopped this Knight from being involved with the Council from the ‘get-go’. This family is an excellent example of a wonderful and loving Catholic family. He teaches CCD, their sons are altar boys and they are heavily involved in Little League Baseball. They are ardent supporter of the Church and clergy. The whole family was most recently involved in making our Council Family Picnic a great success. I am of course talking about the family of Jeff and Tricia Gillespie. It gives me great pleasure to recognize the Gillespie family as our Family of the Month for July 2013
The Family of the Month is no stranger to the Council. In fact you see them all the time. In church you will find them in the center front pew. They are a fine example of a Catholic couple and family. This Knight and his wife can be found selling donuts to make money for charities. They have chaired several events when no one else stepped up to work the events. This Knight works very hard to make all the programs and events happen. In another venue you might consider him the Ring Master, making sure all the acts are pulled off for the enjoyment of all. For all the many things this couple has done, for the long hours they put in and for their dedication to and for the Council it is my pleasure to recognize Tom and Denise Martin as the Family of the Month for June. You see we saved the best for last! Thank you Tom and Denise.
You see this Knight and his wife at all of our functions. In fact it would be very difficult to not recognize this Knight at our meetings. He and his wife planned and coordinated our Corporate Communion and Memorial Mass and the dinner following Mass. He and his wife have a deep faith and are true examples of what a Catholic family is. He is our Church Program Director and he is also involved in the Parish’s Men’s group. And the reason you would not be able to miss this Knight at our meetings is that he wears this rather distinctive “red” jacket as our District Deputy. It gives me great pleasure and honor to recognize Steve and Mary Munchak as our May Family of the Month. Congratulations Steve and Mary.
As we were scurrying around preparing for Casino Knight our Family of the Month did not hesitate to volunteer to take charge of the Kitchen Crew. Not only did they prepare delicious food they also purchased the food, beverages and supplies too. Much to our Casino Knight’s patrons delight we had hot food and cold drinks to fuel the evening of fun. And though they and their Culinary Crew made it look easy, it was a lot of hard work. In addition to their gastronomic generosity, they are both Eucharistic Ministers serving our Church! It gives me great pleasure to recognize Rob and Clare Morson as our April Family of the Month! Thanks Rob and Clare for all you do!
Our Council Family of the Month serves as a great example of a Catholic family. This Knight, his wife and two sons serve are involved in the Church and the Council. Both sons have been Altar Boys, the parents have taught CCD and they have been instrumental in making the Annual Easter Egg Hunt as success - even when the weather is not accommodating. This Knight is also a Fourth Degree Knight and can be found supporting our Fourth Degree events at St. Andrews. It gives me great pleasure to recognize Rickey, Doris, Mark and Andrew Dean as our Council Family of the Month. Thank you for all you do!
The family of the month is a great example of a wonderful Catholic family. They are involved in nearly every Council function and can be counted on to assist in what ever way they can. They are devout Catholics and even have a son who is a Priest! It gives me great pleasure to recognize Joe and Gerri Beres as our Family of the Month for February. Thank you Joe and Gerri for all you do.
The Family of the Month for January are dedicated Catholics. This Knight has been a Knight for over 45 years and is still going strong. Along with his family, this dedicated Knight has headed up our Pasta Dinners the past two years with resounding success and panache. It is with great pleasure that I recognize the Jim Tierney Family for Family of the Month. Thank you Jim and Clare!
The Family of the Month for December 2012, has been involved in many of the Council’s activities during the year. Their most recent contribution spanned three generations of volunteering while making the Children’s Christmas Party a huge success. With Santa’s chair waiting and an exuberant little elf, parish children eagerly awaited the arrival of Santa. Then with wide eyes they listened to Santa tell the story of the “First Christmas and the Christ Child”. This family is a great example of what Catholic families are all about -- love and enthusiasm for life and the Church. It is with great pleasure that we recognize the Charlie McCormick and Rob Davis family as the “Family of the Month”. This is bittersweet as we lost Charlie in a tragic auto accident on December 17th. He will be sorely missed.
The November Family of the month are familiar (and cheerful) faces. In addition to all they do for the Parish and the Council they organized the Senior’s Thanksgiving Dinner, which we co-host with the Father Nudd Council (St. Timothy’s). They coordinated the cooking and delivery of turkeys and pies and the set-up and cleanup of the Dinner. Their efforts made over 100 seniors very happy and full. It is my pleasure to recognize the Dave Skouby family as the November Family of the Month. Thank you Dave, Diana and kids!
The Family of the Month for October can be found at every function the Council holds. They are usually there before the event starts to help set up, are usually part of the main affair and can be found helping with the cleanup afterwards. They are exemplar of the Catholic family. Their eldest son is a priest. Their grown children are grounded in their faith. They are generous to their Church and their Council. They not only support the Council events they strive to make the Council better. It is with great honor and pleasure that I recognize the Joseph and Geri Beres as the Family of the Month for October.
September’s Family of the Month is a couple who quietly and efficiently go about their way supporting Church and Council. Paul and Judy Bourgeois were in charge of making all the table placards for the tables at the 20th Anniversary Banquet ensuring that each one had the proper color dot for the proper meal selections. To ensure the ambiance was appropriately set Paul and Judy unselfishly donated colorful flower arrangements for each table. It is my pleasure to recognize Paul and Judy Bourgeois as Family of the Month for September.
The Family of the Month for August, is the Charlie McCormick Family. Charlie and Nora typify the conservative Catholic Family. They are deeply rooted in their faith and share that faith with others. As a relatively new Knight, since 2011, he and Nora have become very involved in the Council along with their other endeavors to support the Church. The co-operate the Holy Trinity Jubilee Park which is dedicated to supporting retreats and other diocesan functions. As evidence of their fraternalism and brotherhood, Charlie and Nora made an extra effort to prepare meals and assist the Deputy Grand Knight’s wife, Denise, while she was convalescing from knee replacement surgery. Their enthusiasm for their faith, Church and Council is admirable.
The Family of the Month for July is Tom and Susan Salveggio. Their marriage is a testimony to our faith and their contributions through the past year were many. Tom and Susan could be found at nearly all the Council activities. Tom, as Deputy Grand Knight, with Susan at his side, attended to every detail to ensure the events were a success. We appreciate all the time you invested in the Council. Thank you Tom and Susan.
