HUGH P. BURNS

 

On Saturday, November 2, 2013 at home in Lorton, VA. Beloved husband of Teresa A. Burns; father of Dany Burns (James Hamson), Brian Burns, Mary Burns (David Gross) and Chris Burns (Sharon); brother of Mary Rosche; grandfather of Holly Santa Ana, Brad, Brittany and Bethany Hamson, and Justin, Evelyn and Audrey Burns; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Hugh was born in Paterson, NJ and raised in Greenbelt, MD, where he attended DeMatha High School. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1962 and was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force. During his 22 year Air Force career he served as a Public Affairs Officer at every USAF organization level, including an assignment with the Joint Casualty Resolution Center (JCRC) in Thailand, and two tours at the Pentagon. He earned a Masters of Public Administration from Central Michigan University and a Masters in Communications from Boston University. Hugh joined the Lockheed Corporation in 1985 as Corporate Director of News and Information and became the Director, Marketing Communications when Lockheed and Martin Marietta merged in 1995, a position he held with Lockheed Martin until he retired in 2001. After his second retirement he enjoyed golfing, cruising with his wife and friends, and spending time with his grandchildren. Relatives and friends may call at the Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Dr. Alexandria, VA on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 from 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Raymond of Penafort Catholic Church, 8750 Pohick Rd., Springfield, VA on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Interment Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
