COUNCIL #12846 - SAINT JOHN BOSCO REMEMBERS
FRANCIS C. LARVIE

It is my sad duty to report the passing of Brother Francis “Frank” Carl Larvie, 91, of Nampa, Idaho and more recently of Burke, Virginia, a member of our Council, on August 5, 2025, in Burke. Frank was the father of our Worthy Past Deputy Grand Knight, SK John Larvie. He was a longtime Knight, having transferred from the Our Lady of the Rosary Council in Boise, Idaho to the St. John Bosco Council in April 2025.

Brother Frank lived life to the fullest. He was a proud member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe of St. Francis, South Dakota. A U.S. Navy veteran, Frank spent most of his five years in the Navy at sea, first on the carrier USS ORISKANY and then, having qualified as a submariner, on WW II-era diesel-electric boats USS ARCHERFISH and USS TIRANTO. After his Honorable discharge from the Navy, Frank used his G.I. Bill well, earning a bachelor’s degree from the Montana School of Mines (Montana Tech) in 1962, as well as an MBA from the University of Montana. Following completion of his higher education, Frank spent the bulk of his career in managerial engineering positions in the mining industry.

By all accounts, Brother Frank had all the qualities of a great leader and achiever: he was congenial, conscientious, honest, hard-working, kind, and thoughtful. A true Catholic gentleman who was robustly dedicated to his family, friends, and faith, he will be missed by all his Brother Knights.

A memorial Mass will be said in his memory at St. Raymond of Penafort church at 10 a.m. on Wednesday 10 September. His remains will return to Boise for final disposition. All are welcome to attend.

For those so inclined, the family requests that contributions in Frank’s memory be made to the Catholic mission to the Lakota Sioux of the Rosebud Tribe: 350 South Oak Street, PO Box 499, St. Francis, SD 57572 (Phone: 605-747-2361), URL: https://sfmission.org/secure-donation/ .

“Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
