COUNCIL #12846 - SAINT JOHN BOSCO REMEMBERS
WILLIAM "BILL" DELANEY

William (Bill) Delaney passed away on August 14, 2023. Bill was born on December 16, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY. He attended Notre Dame University where he was an Air Force ROTC student. As a new officer, he met his wife, Merce, in Tennessee and they married in Chattanooga following his USAF assignments in Iceland and Maine. Bill's 22-year Air Force career included assignments as supply officer and logistician during tours in Japan, Spain, San Antonio, Omaha, and the Pentagon. For 10 years, he was the Chief of the Logistics Division for the DoD Dependents' Schools. He earned a Doctorate in Education at Catholic University and then served as an investigator for the House Appropriations Committee prior to his retirement. Bill and Merce raised six children, residing in Annandale, VA then Fairfax Station, VA. Bill was very active in church affairs as lector and a member of the Knights of Columbus. In fact, Bill Delaney was a plankholder at the very beginning of Saint John Bosco Council #12846 in 2001 at Saint Raymond's (he later transferred to Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Sterling). He was also an integral member of Falcons Landing Community. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Merce, and his six children (of which two are members of St John Bosco Council), and many grandchildren.
