Immediate Past State Deputy: SK Mr Richard S Johnson

Richard Johnson joined the Knights of Columbus in 2001, shortly after he completed the R.C.I.A program at Holy Rosary Church, with the encouragement of his father-in-law Bill Northey. He immediately got involved in council activities for Christopher Council, working his way through the officer ranks until he invested two years as Grand Knight. While Grand Knight of Christopher he obtained Star Council in his first year. Rick continues to advise, mentor and support many of the leaders in Christopher Council.

At the State level Rick has served three years as District Deputy for Past State Deputies Gerry Safranski, Ralph Body and Barry Swain. He has held various positions for the State including, State Warden (Program Director for the jurisdiction), State Advocate, State Treasurer and currently holds the office of State Secretary under State Deputy Gene Dzielak.

Rick holds a Bachelor of Music in Sacred Music from Westminster Choir College, Princeton, New Jersey, and is a music teacher for Christ the Teacher Catholic School, where he was nominated as Music Teacher of the year by the school community in 2011. He was awarded the “Lead, Learn, Proclaim” award from the National Catholic Educators Association (NCEA) in 2014 for his work in Catholic Education. He serves as moderator for the National Junior Honor Society, Liturgical Music Ministry, Band, Choir and the Drama programs. He has been involved as an educator in Catholic School Education for 21 years. In the past he has served as the Music Director and Music Teacher for Saint Albert the Great Catholic Church in Huntingdon Valley, PA. He continues to substitute as an accompanist for masses at Holy Rosary.

The joy of his life is his family. His wife of nearly 25 years, Patti, works at J.P.Morgan Private Bank. His daughter, Emma, graduated from Saint Mark’s High School in 2016, West Chester University in 2020 with a degree in Theatre and currently works at Christ The Teacher. Rick’s son Evan graduated from Saint Mark’s High School in 2020 and is currently attending the University of Delaware as a Music Education major.

Rick has had the privilege to work side by side with his mentor, friend and father-in law, Bill Northey, who has been a great source of support for him throughout his Knighthood journey. That support and cooperation continues to this day as they co-manage and serve on the board of the Brandywine Club Inc., Home of Christopher Council 3182.

Rick has enjoyed working with the State Council, and with your support will continue to work on strengthening and engaging the great men of your councils.
