RAYMOND H. PIRKL

 

Raymond H. Pirkl, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at Field Crest Care Center, Hayfield, MN. Mass of Christian Burial is set for Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 1:00 pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owatonna. Friends may greet the family on Friday, July 13, 2018 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at Brick – Meger Funeral Home and one hour before the funeral liturgy on Sat. The Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Friday at the funeral home. Ray was born October 4, 1933, in Deerfield Township, MN, son of the late Louis and Lucille (Curran) Pirkl. He attended country school in Deerfield township. Ray enlisted into the Army in 1954 and serviced for two years and received his GED while in the service. He was united in marriage to Marion Sammon on October 29, 1953 at Immaculate Conception Church in Faribault and this couple were blessed with two children, Randy and Renae. Ray worked at Pure Oil, then, in April 1957, he started at Owatonna Tool Company as a machinist for the next 38 years. He also farmed while working at OTC. Ray retired from OTC on November 30, 1995. Ray was a long-time member of St. Joseph Church, Knights of Columbus, the Owatonna Eagles Club, and The American Legion. In Ray and Marion’s earlier years, the couple did quite a bit of traveling, with Hawaii being their favorite destination. Ray always enjoyed watching his grandchildren at their sporting and scholastic events and enjoyed polka dancing and he belonged to the Polka club in the area.Ray also enjoyed being part of a bowling team.

Survived by his wife of 64 years Marion, son Randy (Kelly) Pirkl of Owatonna, and daughter Renae (Brian) Humphries of Maple Grove, MN. Grandchildren Zach (Kelsey) Pirkl of Pingree Grove, Illinois, Lindsey (Adam) Traxler of Apple Valley, MN, Logan (Ashley) Pirkl of St. Louis Park, MN, Matt Humphries (Andra Trakalo) of Maple Grove, MN, and Mitchell Humphries of Maple Grove, MN, and great-granddaughter Isabella Pirkl. One sister named Rosemary (John) Meyer of Byron, MN. One sister in law, Joan Pirkl of Medford, MN. And several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by Lewis and Lucille Pirkl, brother Harlow Pirkl and niece Kelly Meyer.
