Richard C. Theis, 82, of Kearney died Friday, June 15, 2018 at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 am Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at the St. James Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Kearney Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #52, VFW Post #759 in conjunction with the United States Navy Honors Team. Visitation is 5:00 to 7:00 pm Monday at the Church followed by a Vigil Prayer service at 7:00 pm.

Memorials are suggested to St. James Catholic Church. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com. Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services.

Richard was born July 15, 1935 in Kearney, Nebraska to Charles and Alice (DeBaets) Theis. He grew up in the Kearney area and was a 1953 graduate of Riverdale High School. In January of 1956, Richard enlisted in the United States Navy. He served in numerous locations, including Okinawa, Japan for one year. Richard was honorably discharged in December of 1959. On August 13, 1962, Richard was united in marriage to Geraldine Barta in Kearney, Nebraska. The couple made their home Northwest of Kearney where they farmed.

Richard was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Eagle’s Club and the American Legion Post 52. He enjoyed fishing, camping, 4-wheeling and playing cribbage.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Geraldine Theis of Kearney; children John Theis and wife Kristie of Kearney, Cheryl Muhlbach and husband Jerry of Kearney and Joan Gracia of Axtell; grandchildren Logan and Drew Muhlbach and Taylor and Gabriella Gracia; brother Donald Theis and wife Carol of Gibbon and Gerald Theis of Kearney; sister-in-law Virginia Theis Meuret of Kearney; brother-in-law Bob Wetovick of Alda; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; son Patrick Theis; brother Ronald Theis and sister Louise Wetovick.
