JAMES P. FORREST

 

James P. Forrest, age 90 of Carlyle, passed away at Breese Nursing Home on Sunday, January 7, 2018.

Mr. Forrest was born on August 8, 1927, in Xenia, Illinois, a son of Louis and Irma (Lawson) Forrest. He married Catherine M. Seiffert on April 20, 1955, at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle and she preceded him in death on November 22, 2016.

Mr. Forrest is survived by his three children – Kris Huckshold and husband Karl of Nashville, David Forrest and wife Barbara of Mt. Vernon, and Jef Forrest and wife Sharon of Collinsville; his grandchildren – Elizabeth Horstmeyer and fiance Todd Meyer, Andy Horstmeyer, Danielle Forrest, and Brandon Folsom and wife Marcie; great grandchildren – Lily, Desiree, Kim, Jacob, Daxton and Harper; 2 brothers – Delbert Forrest and wife Rose of Trenton and Walter Forrest and wife Ann of Nebraska; and his in-laws – Barb Forrest of Louisville, Texas, Shirley, Ruth Peters, Betty Robben, Mary Ade, Leroy “Curly” Seiffert and wife Janis, Jim Seiffert and wife Clare, and Marge Seiffert, all of Carlyle.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Forrest was preceded in death by his brothers – Carl Forrest and Phillip Forrest; and his in-laws - Virginia “Jane” Henn and her husband Glenn, Paul Seiffert, Jr., Vince Peters and Tom Robben.

Mr. Forrest was a veteran of the United States Merchant Marines and also served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He owned and operated Forrest Service Station in Carlyle for over 30 years. He was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed making wine. Jim loved working in his garden and with his pecan trees, and often waged war with “the fuzzy-tailed tree rats” over his pecans. Mr. Forrest was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle and of the Carlyle Knights of Columbus, Council 1382.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, January 12, 2018, at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck, celebrant. Committal rites with military honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle on Thursday, January 11 2018, from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. and on Friday from 8:00 – 9:30 A.M. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Forrest are suggested to HSHS Hospice of Southern Illinois and they will be accepted at Zieren Funeral Home.
