COUNCIL #945 - OWATONNA REMEMBERS
ROGER L. SOUKUP

Roger L. Soukup of Owatonna passed away January 16, 2018 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester after a courageous battle with lymphoma. He lived life to the fullest for 81 years. He was born October 1, 1936 in Faribault, MN to George and Florence (Andersen) Soukup.

Roger graduated from Owatonna High School in 1954. He married the love of his life Sharon (Degen) on August 18, 1962. They danced their way through 55 years of marriage; setting an example of unconditional love for all.

Roger devoted his working years to Uber Glove & Tanning Co, retiring in 2001 after 47 years of service. He was a dedicated man who was always willing to lend a hand. He enjoyed sharing his talents and passions with everyone he met. He loved cars, trucks and planes. Roger spent much of his time restoring classic vehicles into beautiful masterpieces. His restoration talents were often rewarded with “the best of show” awards with his pride and joy; a 1940 green Plymouth pickup. Building and flying remote control model airplanes rounded out his hobbies. He spent his winters rebuilding the planes he crashed in the summer.

Roger was an avid sports fan who enjoyed many years of softball, bowling and go cart racing. Cheering on the Minnesota Vikings and Twins was also a priority. The pride on his face was apparent as he supported his children and grandchildren in their sporting activities throughout the years. He was the #1 fan, regardless of the sport.
Roger took his responsibility as a husband, father and grandfather very seriously. He loved his family dearly and was always present with a big smile and an “I love you” to brighten your day. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; son, Scott (Skip) and Shari Soukup; their children, Connor and Parker; daughter, Kelly and Pete Tellijohn; their, children Cal (Christa), Carli, Gabriele, and Macey; son, Troy and Melissa Soukup; their children, Megan, Madison, Thor, and Taylor, and many nieces and nephews.
