MICHAEL VINCENT FLATTERY

 

Michael Vincent Flattery, 75, of St. James, passed away January 8, 2018 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Flattery was born February 9, 1942, the son of the late Michael J. and Mary Flattery. He was a veteran of the US Air Force where he served as an aircraft maintenance officer during the Vietnam War. Following his time in the military, Michael returned to his native Northern Virginia and pursued a career with the federal government at the Department of Health and Human Services, where he worked for 28 years. After his retirement, he worked as an accountant for several years before moving to St. James. Mr. Flattery was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife Genevieve Flattery, a son Brendan Flattery of Denver, CO; two daughters, Meaghan Flattery of Washington, DC, and Katie Ault and husband Bill of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, Emily Ault, Kristen Ault, Samantha Ault, and Rebecca Ault; and a sister Kathleen Smith of Arlington, VA. A funeral Mass was held at noon on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
