MARCELLUS J CRISTE

 

Marcellus James "Marcy" Criste, 81, Hollidaysburg, passed away Friday at Van Zandt VA Medical Center.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Joseph A. and Madeline (Sutton) Criste. On July 22, 1957, he married Alma D. Long in Winchester, Va., and she preceded him in death on Feb. 8, 2015, after sharing 57 years of marriage.
Surviving are a daughter, Lisa M. Criste of Hollidaysburg; two sons: Barry J. and wife, Deborah, and Brian J. and wife, Brenda, all of Altoona; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol Ann in Maryland; and three brothers: C. Kenneth of State College and Bert and Richard, both in Maryland.
He was preceded in death by four siblings: Harold, Delores Miller Filer, Russel and Ronald.
Marcy was a 1954 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School, and he attended Shippensburg University. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean conflict as a quartermaster supply specialist, and he was awarded the Sharpshooter (rifle) Medal. He worked for A&P Food for 15 years, and he retired from Pellegrine Engineering as a road inspector.
He attended St. John's Reformed Church, Hollidaysburg, and was a former member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg. He was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Star of the Sea Council 4245 and of Fort Fetter American Legion Post 516. He coached Little League for the Hollidaysburg Lions Club and served two terms as a Hollidaysburg Borough councilman.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, working in his vegetable garden and watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, and from
10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at St. John's Reformed Church, Hollidaysburg, the Rev. William L. Zimmerman officiating. Military honors provided by the Blair County Veterans Honor Guard will be presented immediately after. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
