JAMES P. WARD

 

James P. Ward, age 89 of Claymont, DE, passed away on February 8, 2017.

Mr. Ward grew up in the Germantown section of Philadelphia and graduated from La Salle High School. After serving in the U.S.

Army Air Corps, he earned a bachelor's degree in Sociology from St. Joseph's University and a master's degree in History from Villanova University. After teaching in secondary schools in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, Mr. Ward joined the faculty of the new Brandywine College in Delaware when it opened in 1966. He taught History and Sociology and in 1977 Brandywine College merged with Widener University, where Mr. Ward taught until he retired in 1992.

He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Adelaide Ward, and his siblings Edward Ward, and Adelaide Meehan. Mr. Ward was an avid reader and his hobby was creative writing. Several of his letters were published in the Letters column of both the Wilmington News Journal and the Philadelphia Inquirer.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Arbie Amond Ward, and children James (Linda) of St. Leonard, MD; Mary Elizabeth Gosselink (Robert) of Washington, DC; Patricia Krallinger (Robert) of Fairfax, VA; and David (Christine) of Wilmington, DE, and 11 grandchildren. Mr. Ward was a parishioner of Holy Rosary for 50 years.
