VINCENT J FERRARO

 

Vincent J. Ferraro, 94, passed away on November 8, 2017. He was born on April 14, 1923 to the late Pasquale and Josephine Ferraro in Brooklyn, New York. His wife of 64 years, Mary Ferraro preceded him in death.

Mr. Ferraro was a WWII Veteran and served in the U.S. Army Eighth Air Force 398th Bombardment Group. He served as a Flight Engineer on a B-17 Bomber conducting 17 combat missions over Axis held territories. His aircraft was shot down over Pilsen, Czechoslovakia where he was able to avoid capture until picked-up by Allied forces

After the war he went to work for the U.S. Customs Service as a Customs Agent at JFK airport during the "Golden Age" of Air travel, and at the Ports of Newark. He retired after 35 years of service.

He was a Fourth degree knight in the Knights of Columbus, and a Life member of the V.F.W.

He was also a lifelong diehard fan of the New York Yankees. He was even in attendance for Lou Gehrig Appreciation Day.

He is survived by his daughter Josephine Kummrow and her husband Robert; son Pat Ferraro and his wife Georgette Rogers; grandson David Piemontesi and his wife Heather; grandson Douglas Ferraro; granddaughter Katie Piemontesi and her husband Nathan Hicks; and son-in-law Dave Piemontesi and his wife Sherry.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

A Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at 11am at Church of the Ascension, 4853 Princess Anne Rd., Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
