RAYMOND E THIBEAULT

 

Raymond E. Thibeault, 78 of Hampstead, NH died Sunday, October 31, 2004 at his home. Mr. Thibeault was born in Derry, NH on November 10, 1925, a son of the late Louis and Mary (Lavoie) Thibeault. He was a resident of Hampstead for 41 years, formerly living in Derry, where he attended school. Upon entering high school Mr. Thibeault played football for Pinkerton Academy where the team went on to become undefeated. He also helped support his family, starting at the age of eight, he worked at Ross Corner Dairy Farm delivering milk before school.

Mr. Thibeault enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge as a member of the Fighting 69th Infantry Regiment and was a member of the first unit which met up with the Russians at Torgau on Elbe River, a united act which split Germany in two. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant. Upon returning home from WWII, Mr. Thibeault returned to Pinkerton Academy where he graduated with the class of 1948, and then attended New England College in Henniker, NH graduating in 1952, with a degree in Civil Engineering.

Mr. Thibeault was the Road Agent for the Town of Derry and then became a Civil Engineer for the State of NH. He also worked for Yemma Brothers and Merrimack Paving in Groveland, MA before starting his own business, Raymond E. Thibeault Construction Inc. of Hampstead, NH, later retiring in 1973 due to illness. Mr. Thibeault and his wife Joyce helped set up The Michael Cargil Center of Learning in Rochester, NH. They also owned and operated two other businesses. Bit’s and Pieces gift shop in York, ME and Yankee Pantry Restaurant in E. Hampstead, NH.

Mr. Thibeault was a charter member and past president of the Hampstead Lions Club, past Commander of the VFW Post #11254 Hampstead, a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, Derry, a member of the American Legion - Carl Davis Post #34, Plaistow. He also served on the Hampstead Planning Board and the Board of Adjustment. For many years Mr. Thibeault organized the yearly senior citizens trips and the senior citizens Christmas dinners.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce E. (Wentworth) Thibeault of Hampstead, seven daughters, Joan Murray of Manchester, NH, Cynthia Bedard of Sandown, NH, Martha Temple of Kingston, NH, Kathleen Gavriluk of Methuen, MA, Linda Moseley of Kingston, Rae Ellen Chute of Windham, ME and Doreen Benton of Hampstead, 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, four brothers, Paul Thibeault of Tampa, FL, Robert Thibeault of Huntsville, AL, William Thibeault of Canton, MA, Richard Thibeault of Derry and 21 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 4th at 10:00 AM in the Church on the Plains in Kingston. The burial will follow in the West Hampstead Cemetery, Hampstead. Friends may call on Wednesday from 3-5 and 7-9 pm, at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry.
