SANDOWN -- Alfred E. Harris, 78, died June 3, 2008, at his home.

He was born Oct. 2, 1929, in Millinocket, Maine, to Alfred H. and Dorothy M. (Shields) Harris. He grew up in Middleton, Mass., and was a graduate of Holton High School in Danvers, Mass. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He worked as a heavy equipment operator his entire professional career for Local 4 --The International Union of Operating Engineers out of Boston. He did work for many local area construction companies including the Perini Corporation. He was formerly an active communicant of St. Anne's Parish in Hampstead, until health issues arose. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed ballroom dancing and trumpet playing.

IN HIS LIFE: He is survived by his wife, Beverley Harris of Sandown; two sons and their spouses, Kevin and Catherine Harris of Woburn, Mass., and Gary and Lyn Harris of Hampton; one daughter and her spouse, Cheryl and Peter Shaw of Raymond; two grandchildren, Jillian Shaw and Justin Shaw of Raymond; one brother, Donald Harris of Peabody, Mass.; two sisters, Marion Carroll of Bradford, Mass., and Elizabeth Getchell of Danvers, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: Calling hours will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brewitt Funeral Home, Raymond. There is no formal funeral service scheduled at this time. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to 85 Astor Ave. Ste 2, Norwood, MA 02062-5040.
