Obituary for Timothy P. Bruner
Timothy P. Bruner, 68 of Kearney died Sunday, October 8, 2017 at CHI Good Samaritan in Kearney.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM, Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney. The Rev. Joseph Hannappel will officiate. Cremation will follow mass. Interment will be 9 AM, Thursday at the Kearney Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted at graveside by the National Guard Honors Team. Visitation will be 5-7pm, Tuesday at the church with a vigil to follow at 7:00 PM. The casket will be closed at the church.

Tim was born on January 19, 1949 in Bloomfield, Nebraska. Tim attended St. Andrews Catholic School in Bloomfield, Nebraska. Tim graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1967. He attended Wayne State College and later graduated from University of Nebraska at Omaha with a degree in Accounting.

Tim served in the United States Army from March 19, 1970 to November 18, 1971. Tim walked point for his squad in Vietnam for six months. He did not lose a single soldier under his command and watch. Tim was awarded the bronze star with oak leaf cluster, among other honors.

When Tim returned to the world, he graduated from college under the GI Bill and married Patricia Schmidt on August 5, 1972. Tim began his career in hospital finance working for Lutheran Medical Services.

Tim moved to Kearney, Nebraska in 1983 and along with two others, founded Richard Young Hospital and were responsible for bringing emergency medivac services to rural Nebraska. Tim continued his career in Lincoln, Nebraska for Lincoln General Hospital and ByranLGH. Tim was dedicated to community service; serving on the Board of Directors for Bright Lights, the Lincoln Rebels and the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), including a term as President for all three organizations, among other foundations.

Upon retirement, Tim resided in Kearney, Nebraska, devoting his time to the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Church, and his grandchildren. Tim had love for his family and friends, baseball, and singing. Tim had a tremendous, lasting impact on everyone who met him. Tim had the rare gift of making people feel as if they were the most important person in the world.

Tim was preceded in death by his father, Don Bruner.

He is survived by his mother, Mary, and husband Roland, wife, Patsy; son, Nathan, daughter-in-law Sara, his grandchildren, Sawyer, Emerson, and Noah, brothers Tom Bruner, Phil Bruner and wife Joanie, Chris Johnson and wife Marilyn, and Bill Johnson and wife Kelly, sisters Ruth Ott and husband Curt, and Mary Pomerville and husband Rick, and numerous nephews and nieces.
