JOHN GATELY JR. John Joseph "Jack" Gately Jr., 69, of Henderson, left this world June 30, 2015, to reunite with his daughter and parents. He was born in Lynn, Mass., graduating from St. Mary's High School with the class of 1963. He attended college at Lowell Technological Institute, as well as the Virginia Polytechnical Institute. Jack served as a signalman in the U.S. Navy. He later worked in the Charlestown Naval Shipyard and participated in drafting designs that were used in the rebuilding of the USS Constitution in the 1970's. Later in life, Jack retired from the United States Postal Service. Jack was very involved with the four-wheel drive community for many years and was previously a proud member of the Vegas Valley 4 Wheelers. He loved to explore the desert and out of the way places with his family and friends. Jack was an avid fan of all of the Boston area professional sports teams, particularly the Patriots and Red Sox. Jack never met a stranger and was able to start a meaningful conversation with almost everyone that crossed his path. He also loved playing cards with family and friends. Jack was preceded in death by his daughter, Meaghan of Las Vegas; and his parents, John Sr. and Aileen of Lynn, Mass. He is survived by his wife, of 44 years, Kathleen (nee Ramsdell); and his son and daughter-in-law, John III and Heather of Mesquite. Jack was the adored "Gampa" of Nathaniel, Alayna and Kaitlyn Gately, also of Mesquite. He also leaves his brother, Peter Gately of Washington, D.C.? his sister, Kathleen White of Peabody, Mass.? as well as numerous aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in his honor at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, at St. Viator Catholic Community, 2461 E. Flamingo Road. Burial following at Palm Valley View Memorial Park. Jack was devoted to his church and faith, serving as a Eucharistic Minister. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Jack's memory to St. Viator Catholic Community, 2461 E. Flamingo Road, Las Vegas, NV 89121.
