Charles L. Walline, 89, of Kearney died Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Mt. Carmel Home in Kearney. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 am Saturday at St. James Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be held 3:00 to 5:00 pm Friday at the church with a Vigil/prayer service beginning at 5:00 pm.

Charles “Charlie” L. Walline was born October 28, 1927 near Funk, Nebraska to Carl and Frances (Hedstrom) Walline. He was raised in Funk and was a 1945 graduate of Axtell High School. Charlie enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946. After serving in the Navy, he worked at Culligan in Kearney. Charlie began working as a rural mail carrier in 1953. He retired in 1989, after 36 years of employment. He was united in marriage to Betty L. McGowan on November 17, 1948 at St. James Catholic Church. Betty passed away in 1988. On February 24, 1990, Charlie married Betty L. Lynch at St. James Catholic Church. She passed away June 20, 2005.

Charlie was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and a longtime member of the Elks, American legion, VFW, Barbershoppers, and the National Association of Rural Federal Employees. He enjoyed gardening, traveling and attending Husker and Kearney Catholic High School sporting events.

He is survived by his children Steve Walline of Lincoln, Becky Walline of Kearney, Jeff (Caroline) Walline of Idaho Falls, ID, Tim (Melissa) Walline of Leawood, KS; grandchildren Conor, Jordan, Caitlin, Kyle, Grant, Frank, Grace and Charles Walline; sister Margaret Burns of Kearney; sister-in-law Bobbie Lindenstein of Storm Lake, IA; and many nieces and nephews. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; wives Betty (McGowan) Walline and Betty (Lynch) Walline; daughter Mary Ann Walline; grandson Berkley Charles Walline; brothers Lauren, Millard and Paul Walline; and sister Doris Ibsen;
