GERALD 'JERRY' FRANK HAZEN

 

Gerald "Jerry" Frank Hazen, Sr. PORT ORCHARD, WA - Former Goose Creek resident Gerald "Jerry" Frank Hazen, Sr. died peacefully June 20, 2017 in Port Orchard, Washington following a brief illness. Jerry was born on June 20, 1929 in Eggertsville, New York. After graduating Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Buffalo with a BS in Chemistry he began his career as a chemist with Allied Chemical. In 1971 Jerry had the opportunity to move to Goose Creek, SC to work for Bayer. He retired in 1993. Jerry not only took pride in his work but in his community. While in Eggertsville he was a Lieutenant in the National Guard and a volunteer fireman. After moving to Goose Creek he became active in the Coastal Conservation League and Preservation Society of Charleston. Jerry's interest were as deep as they were wide. He was also an avid traveler, fisherman and hunter. Jerry's gentle unassuming nature guided by quiet reflection and importance of humility endeared him to all that knew him well. He is survived by his daughter Mary Ellen H.S. Rupert and her husband Thomas of Port Orchard, Washington; his sons Jerry Hazen, Jr. and wife Linda of Summerville, SC, Jim Hazen of Charlotte, NC, Gary Lopez and his wife Donna Merry of Mount Pleasant, SC, and Mark Bolton of Mount Pleasant, SC; his granddaughters Emily Swain and her husband Joel Hanson, Camille Bolton, Erica Willbanks and her husband John; grandsons Patrick Swain, Nicholas Rupert, Trey Hazen, Cameron Bolton and Devon Sabatini and his wife Kristina; his great granddaughter Fiona Hanson and great grandsons Finnegan Hanson and Jonathan Willbanks; and a host of loving friends and relatives. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 10:00am Monday, July 10 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Goose Creek, SC.
