George Richard Hart
NEWPORT NEWS - George Richard Hart, 76, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, December 18, 2016. George was born in Queens, NY and made his home in Newport News for the past 36 years. He served in the United States Army for 24 years. During his Army career he did two tours of duty in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Following his military career he worked for 21 years in Civil Service. George was active in the Knights of Columbus, Walter Pollard Council, #5480, having served as the Grand Knight and was a champion for programs that supported children. George was preceded in death by his 6 siblings. He is survived by his wife, Maria Carfora Hart; his three children, Kim Hart Moser and her husband, Carl of Newport News, Scott Hart and his wife, Kalen of Williamsburg and Powell "Poeu" Hart and his wife, Mouy of Newport News; Marias children, Virginia M. Hale Rosecki, William J. Hale, Daniel D. Carfora Hale and Bernard R. Brown; and grandchildren, Rachel, Michael, Gavin, Gabriel, Kaitlin and Conor. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 from 6:00-7:30pm with the Knights of Columbus Chalice service starting at 7:15p.m. at Weymouth Funeral Home. A graveside service will take place on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 11:00a.m at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heartland Hospice or St. Jude's Children's Fund. Arrangements are by Weymouth Funeral Home.
