Malcolm Duke, 71, a retired banker, passed away peacefully April 24, 2016 at home with his wife, Kathie, by his side. Malcolm was born in Beaumont, Texas. He married Kathleen Marie Kleifgen April 6, 1968 at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Houston, Texas. He attended Schreiner Military Institute in Kerrville, Texas where he excelled, receiving many academic honors and military awards. Throughout his education he held leadership positions in a variety of organizations, becoming the high school's highest ranking officer. Malcolm graduated from Lamar State College of Technology in 1966 with a BS degree in political science. He was a member and officer of Epsilon Kappa Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He completed his post graduate work at the University of Wisconsin, Bank Administration Institute.

During his college years Malcolm began his banking career at Beaumont State Bank being appointed the youngest bank officer in Texas, rising to Executive Vice President. He continued his profession in Dallas, Texas at InterFirst Bank Corporation, in Victoria, Texas at Victoria Bank and Trust, receiving numerous awards for his dedication through the years. He was a consultant for Beal Bank in Dallas.

In his retirement years Malcolm continued as a mortgage banker in the Dallas area for 16 years. Malcolm's engaging personality, wit and sense of humor engendered many friends who will be forever touched by his wisdom, his laughter and his love. He was a man of high integrity and honesty who never met a stranger. His neighbors, wherever he lived, always held a high place in his heart. He was active in several civic organizations including Young Men's Business League, Lions Club, City of Victoria Planning Commissioner, Victoria Gulf Coast Flyrodders -founder, Arts Volunteer Guild , and served on many boards including St. Joseph High School, University of Houston-Victoria Advisory Board, Victoria Cultural Council Board, and Victoria Symphony Society Board.

He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Finance Council member, and served as a church usher for many years. Fr. Tim Church bestowed on Malcolm the honor and privilege of building the cross over the main sanctuary altar for the new St. Jude Church building.

His real passion was fly fishing. As a student of John Bradford, a well-known bamboo fly rod maker, Malcolm built and sold fine bamboo fly rods. His customers live as far away as London and Germany. At the time of his death he was an active member and officer of the Dallas Fly Fishers Club. Other memberships include the Sherman Red River Fly Fishers Club, Trout Unlimited, and the International Federation of Fly Fishers. He volunteered his time sharing and teaching his love of fly fishing to local high school students and adults in the community, and Reel Recovery for cancer survivors.

Malcolm is preceded in death by his parents George Malcolm Duke and Minalee Lyons Duke Steen, both of Beaumont, Texas. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 48 years, Kathleen Marie Kleifgen Duke "Kathie" of Allen, Texas; son, Robert Malcolm Duke "Rob" and his fiancé, Jaime Whetstine of Denver, Colorado; daughter, Juliette deWaal Duke Clark "Julie", son-in-law, Eric Andrew Clark, grandchildren, Parker Duke Clark, Kathleen Marie Clark "Kate", Charles Andrew Clark "Charlie", all of Dallas, Texas; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Cindy and Steve Lubke of San Angelo, Texas; Pam and Jerry Adams of Denver, Colorado; Pete and Lynn Kleifgen of Atlanta, Georgia and Jo Anne Kleifgen of New York City.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Jude Catholic Church Bell Tower Fund in his memory. Please contact the parish business office. A rosary/vigil will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church, Allen, Texas, Thursday, May 5, 2016, 7:00 PM at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1515 Greenville Ave., Allen, Texas 75002. The funeral will take place at St. Jude Catholic Church, Allen, Texas, Friday, May 6, 2016, 10:00 AM. Burial will take place immediately in the St. Jude Columbarium. A reception will follow in the church hall.
